Hello wonderful UOLWCC,

What an honour it is to even be writing this. This club is second to none and the best thing I’ve ever been a part of. For those of you who don’t know me I am currently a second year studying Economics and have served as Social Media Secretary for this year (hope you have enjoyed the content xx). It has been such a privilege to represent the club on committee and get the opportunity to help promote everything that makes UOLWCC so special. With that, it is with a huge amount of excitement and pride in this club that I put myself forward for the role of Club Captain.

I would like to start with some recognition and a big thank you to those who have come before me, I am incredibly proud to have worked closely with Alice this year watching her thrive in welcoming, growing and promoting this club so well, increasing members, players and raising the bar for what UOLWCC can be. Something which I hope to continue and build on. Big shoes to fill to say the least. A huge thank you to the rest of committee for all their hard work this year, it has truly made me appreciate how hard everyone works behind the scenes and is something I look forward to supporting next year.

Serving on committee this year has taught me so much about the running of the club, working with so many different members to create social media content (kind of don’t want to let this role go as it’s been a blast). As well as being involved with as many aspects within the club as possible. If it’s on the group chat you can probably find me there, even taking on a new scoring venture (not as big a fan of umpiring however sorry Martin). I am confident in my ability to work closely with all members helping them succeed in their roles, being a friendly and approachable face always available.

I am also thrilled to get to work in partnership with the Secretary alongside the rest of committee. Between our shared love of the club, I am beyond excited about what we can achieve together and how we can support the committee and the wider club together.

Cricket has always been a big part of my life with my dad playing every season for as long as I can remember. But unfortunately for me and probably like a lot of our members I was put off by how male dominated it was when I was 11. Getting the opportunity to play in such a welcoming and fun environment for the past two years has been the greatest honour. This experience is exactly why it matters so deeply to me that everyone from total beginners to advanced hardball players has a place in this club. Therefore, the plan is to continue the two indoor teams and push for a second outdoor BUCS team. As the number of playing members increases. This will allow those players developing from softball to hardball to have an environment to thrive. The thought of creating more opportunities to play cricket is genuinely so exciting. Even more cricket fixtures. The dream. Alongside this increasing the number of training sessions and friendly fixture opportunities would be a key focus, working with the treasurer to ensure we have the funding to do so. Introducing specialist training sessions such as spin bowling sessions (I know I need them) and S&C would be a great way to help everyone continue developing in all aspects of their cricket! This would be great for our existing BUCS team to help them continue to succeed in their league and perform so well.

Another area I’m especially excited to support and build on is our Friday beginner training sessions, watching everyone develop is one of my favourite parts of this club and with the addition of our new bowling machine (Thank you Alice !!!!!). I cannot wait to see what everyone achieves! Crucially, as women in sport continues to grow, I want UOLWCC to be at the forefront of that, with the club being a role model to other societies. Continuing to work with the union on the women in sport program increasing the visibility of women’s cricket.

I would also like to recognise the incredible community that has been built and how I would like to contribute and further this, working with the Welfare Secretary to increase the number of sober socials, introducing a weekly run club (hopefully this will hold me accountable to the Leeds Half 2027), and increasing the number of club meals in hand increasing the number of opportunities outside of Wednesday socials for social members to enjoy the club. Any excuse to spend more time together to be honest. This would sit alongside long-standing charity initiatives such as the Spinathon, charity netball and working with Leeds Women’s Aid for the half/marathon. Importantly, I look forward to watching everyone continue to accomplish and thrive within this incredible club.

Additionally, continuing to strengthen our relationship with Men’s Cricket to work closely with them continuing our long-standing collaboration through regular communication and shared events.

Finally, I’d like to highlight despite my love for a Wednesday night and a pint, my love and commitment to this club goes deeper. Every part of this club matters to me enormously so being locked into growing and helping the club succeed is my main priority, in saying this see you all in mischief next year!

In short, I love this club and cannot wait to see what we all achieve on and off the pitch next year.
