Hi LUWCC! My name is Rosie and I’m excited to be running for 1st team captain.

Anyone who knows me knows I love two things. One… Food, hence why I am currently in my first year doing Food Science and Nutrition and two… Cricket, of course. Since our current captain loves cricket just as much as I do and also does FS&N, I guess you could say this is just part of the curriculum. Thank you for all you’ve done for the club.

Now I’m not just Chloe’s nepo baby - so what experience of cricket do I actually have? I’ve been playing since I was about 8 years old at Stroud Cricket Club, playing for youth, men's and women's cricket and now Leeds Women's Cricket (may be biased but the best team yet!?), so I’ve been passionate about cricket for most of my life… if you ignore the first 3 years when I would cry before every match because I was too scared of the ball. But hey, character development starts early.

Since then, I have helped create and captained my school's girls cricket team, leading us to victory against the local rivalry. Through that experience, I learnt the importance of planning tactics before the matches and being prepared to adapt in cases of a batting collapse or haywire bowling to get the match back on track for a successful win! As well as that, playing with Stroud men’s side has meant I’ve gained insider knowledge from veteran players to make informed decisions to make the game go our way.

What will I aim to do for the club as captain?
1. As a committee member, I want to encourage the squad to perform at a high level so that women's cricket gets the respect it deserves, since I know first hand the importance of promoting women's sport as strong as it truly is.
2. Starting out as the only girl playing cricket, to becoming part of Stroud CC’s first women's side, it has shown me the importance of feeling welcome and supported. When players feel comfortable and confident, performance grows massively, and the same goes for the teams’. I want to create a supportive environment for the team where everyone is encouraged to play their best.
3. Next year I hope to complete my Level 1 coaching qualification for cricket, so I want to help further develop the team by working with development sec to integrate dev players into the advanced sessions. For advanced sessions I will aim to be encouraging and provide the team with tactic talks on how best to beat Beckett. And, don’t worry, I’ll implement forfeits for Mustafa too… like running a lap every time his coffee spills, which seems to be a weekly occurrence. I will also continue the fresher bake off during preseason training, with reminders to ensure no brownies get left behind… Sorry, I know that's a sore topic.
4. I have a knack for excel spreadsheets thanks to my… lovely… module on academic skills so I will be able to keep on top of availability for BUCs and preseason training and who has played matches to try to keep play time fair.
5. I would also want to work with other committee members to create other opportunities for players like the occasional run club or Hyde Park Book Club/Pub trip after matches. What's a better way to celebrate our inevitable win?

Next year I will try my hardest to lead our team to victory during Varsity, BUCS, Christy and all the matches in between. And of course I will put my life (and ankles, if ykyk) on the line to do the best for our team.
