Eleni Ghigo’s Candidate statement for Trip Secretary
A bit about me:
Hello, my name is Eleni Ghigo, and I am a first year English Literature student. English Literature has been my passion since Year 10, but not just in its academic frame. Although studying English literature is something I greatly enjoy I also love how English literature has positively impacted my view upon the world within different areas such as historically, socially and politically.
Aside from English literature my other hobbies and interests include, Climbing, mountaineering, football, playing the drums, snowboarding, gym, running, hiking and being outdoors as well as travelling.
I have always enjoyed reading, my favourite books include The general and his Labyrinth, Crime and punishment, looking for Alaska and open secrets. I feel as though I can intertwine my love of English with my personal skills and experience of organisation and leadership which in turn would make me suited for the role of trip secretary.
Why I would make a good trip secretary:
I feel confident to be trip secretary due to my past experiences and skills which involve organisation and leadership. These experiences include Bronze and silver DOFE, being vice president of my sixth forms debate team in which I helped organise transport and accommodation. Alongside this my personal experience includes travelling such as a month’s interrailing trip, volunteering in costa Rica and three months backpacking trip around Southeast Asia all which I planned, organised and executed myself.
Apart from my relevant experience regarding planning and executing successful trips and excursions I have been working in hospitality for the past four years. In which I have worked front of house at a Poke restaurant alongside working front of house at a pub. I feel that within my time working in hospitality I have gained and developed the skills necessary to be trip secretary and also to be a positive and suited part of the committee such as skills like time management, working under pressure, planning ahead and most importantly working within a team and ensuring everyone’s voice is heard.
If I was to become trip secretary my priorities and approach would be
- Ensuring everyone’s voice is
- Ensuring the trips are as affordable as possible
- Ensuring that the trips are versatile such as covering different interests and aspects of English Literature, to try and ensure that there is a trip for everyone
- One of my top priorities is to plan a residential trip abroad in Europe
- To ensure everyone’s voice is heard I would do polls via engage and Instagram to gage what people’s priorities are for the trips and what they want out of it
- Be a key team player within the committee
- To promote engagement, I would hold a meeting to discuss what the trip would include so people know exactly what they are signing up for
