My name is Erin, and I am just finishing with my first year as an English Literature and Creative Writing student. Throughout this year, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being involved with English Society and getting to know the lovely people who attend. It’s been so fun meeting more people on my course - it’s through attending English Tea that I met some of my best friends. It’s because of this sense of community that I’m really excited to be a nominee for the position of Publicity Officer for the English Society at Uni of Leeds!

I’ve gone through lots of hobbies and phases throughout my life, but ultimately, English Literature and my love for creative writing has always been what I’ve fallen back on. I know it’s the only future I can see myself being happy and thriving in. I would love to contribute back in some way and say thank you to the community that helped me feel like I had a place when I was initially so nervous about attending university.

I am qualified for this position for a multitude of reasons: in particular, I completed admin work experience under the faculty of engineering in 2023 at the University of Sheffield, answering student enquiries through e-mail, assisted in editing the campus map, typed up notes for faculty away days, shadowed faculty meetings and took notes, and created case studies for students doing work placements abroad. I displayed the attention to detail required of a publicity officer, constantly checking over my work, handling questions, and notified others of events occurring.

Furthermore, I love putting effort into presentation, and whether that be for university work and e-mail, or simply my social media pages and Pinterest boards, I’d be able to make exciting and engaging posts on outlook that engage students, bringing them to more events and contributing to the English community at Leeds.

Most importantly, I want to keep building the vibrant environment English society has created. By voting me as your publicity officer, I’ll send out the weekly e-mail informing all the members of our events this week, keeping up the popularity of the society. I’ll also stay on top of every single enquiry, engaging with fellow students to inform them of any details they’re unsure of regarding this society. With me as your publicity officer, nobody will be left in the dark and I’d keep up the positive image that English Society has maintained for so many years.

I really hope that I’ll have your vote in this year’s elections and I’ll be able to help contribute to the positive experiences that English Society creates at UoL!
