Hi everyone! My name is Ciara Chudasama.

I study in English and Comparative literature, right now I am in my third year and am studying abroad in Iceland! I have been spending my time reading lots of new types of fiction and digging into sagas and tales from Iceland’s past and present. I love this course and I love reading so much, I can’t wait to share my nerdiness with you all and chat with you about books at English Tea!

I care deeply about our community at Leeds and in the School of English, it is such an important part of studying. I hope to create a safe space in EngSoc for committee members, society members and everybody to feel comfortable, welcome and looked after. I hope to use my experience as a course representative and as an outreach and engagement intern to look at the ways we are already successful in this aim and the ways that we can improve.

A key tenet of the English Society is, of course, our filled event calendar! These events are a vital lifeblood of the society and the School of English. I would enthusiastically continue to support events like English Tea and our amazing summer Ball and I am keen to work with the committee to find new and fun ways for us all to connect. Something that I think will really benefit us is more social arty events and more crafts (!) - like the paint n sip which ran last year! I would encourage more informal catch ups as well as opportunities for more forums with our lovely professors. I think this collaboration across all levels of the School of English will be really helpful to all of us.

My hope is that everyone will feel welcome in the School of English and EngSoc. I think we can achieve this by striving for awareness, accessibility and inclusivity in all of our events and communications. I would love to see open conversations and discussions about how we can do this for you!

I hope that you vote for me to be your president of the English Society. I will give it my all and I can’t wait to meet you!!
