Media sec is a key role for the club, it’s pretty behind the scenes but there is a lot of work involved every week. It’s really great if you’re into graphics and editing as you can get pretty creative with the layouts and pretty much design the look for the club next year. You’re in charge of the club’s Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and media email. For the role it would be great if you already know how to use all of these social media platforms. So every week you will have to post team sheets before the match on a Wednesday and post results, players of the match and a separate post for the Pickard’s player of the match. Pickard’s is a major sponsor, so we have to keep them happy, reposting their stories and posting about their merch (tagging them in posts).
It really helps if you keep up with the action by taking photos and videos of the team at training and matches so you have content for the team sheets and promo posts. Being able to creatively respond to a brief will be really valuable in this role and having a format and colour scheme keeps the social media accounts looking really professional. You should communicate with the coordinators to get up-to-date match info and post-match debriefs to help keep the instagram engaging.
You will receive a lot of messages on Instagram as it is vital you reply promptly and with charisma. You are the first person that many new members will interact with and first impressions are vital! You should share important messages with the committee and help organise participation in events that come through the inbox.
There’s a lot of posting about fundraising, different events and generally keeping people up to date with the club. But in general the role is trying to promote the club as much as possible, trying to get as many people to sign up in September and January, posting about the Give it a go, posting stuff from training, any awards we win, and the all important Varsity promo! But if you’ve got any fun ideas, be creative with it. Having active social media accounts is really key in the club’s success and presence so it is really important that you have the time and energy to be able to commit to the role as it really does make a difference.
