Hi LUUWRUFC, I'm Ellie and this is why I should undoubtedly be social sec next year 💃

One thing we can all agree is that Wednesday is the best day of the week, and I will make this even better. My favourite nights have been the most chaotic, like after the triple header win at York, even if they have ended up in 9 hour waits in A&E…

I want to continue the fun next year, and have loads of plans to make the socials nights to remember! I love planning chaos, and although I'm usually late to things, with great power comes great responsibility and I will ready to shout at freshers far before 9pm!

The main thing I would like to offer LUUWRUFC are some more messy joint socials, so that we can cement our reputation as the best sports society in Leeds. I have confirmation from the social secs for netball, rowing, women's football and more… So be prepared for a year of fresh socials and many memories you'll want to remember (or maybe forget).

Importantly, I want to spread the rugby love to all members of the club, and show everyone the reason we all love this club so much - the friendships, the winning Wednesdays and the fun :)

I'd say I bring a mix of energy and party, planning and scheming, and taking care of people who have taken it too far, and I love LUUWRUFC so that's why I'd love to be your social sec!

Hi LUUWRUFC - I'm Eleanor, and here’s why I believe you should vote me for social sec.
Although my attendance at socials this year hasn’t been 100%, I think it’s fair to say when I am there, I fully commit – which is exactly the energy I'd bring as your social sec every single week.
Not to mention… it would be nice to be on the other side of fines finally.
I firmly believe a women’s rugby team should be known for two things: big tackles and even bigger socials.
Rugby is obviously about what happens on the pitch, but I have found some of the best parts of uni rugby happen after training, after matches, and during the random nights out that somehow become team lore. I want to help make sure everyone feels part of that – whether you’re first team, dev, or a fresher just getting stuck in.
I want to help make this team even closer, make socials something people look forward to, and make sure everyone feels part of the club – on and off the pitch. Some of my favourite nights have been when I've had chances to get closer to older girls, and I can’t wait to extend my rugby family and above all, my Jojo Siwa lineage.
If I'm social sec, I promise to bring energy, organisation, and just the right amount of questionable theme ideas. After all, there is nothing like some fresher humiliation to round off a winning Wednesday.
Because university rugby should come with great memories, great people, and at least one Megalash upload that everyone hopes never resurfaces.

Hi, I’m Charlie, and I am running for social sec next year to help create a year that everyone remembers – not just for rugby, but for the nights out, the people and the sense of belonging that comes with it.

My vision is simple: a social scene built on inclusion and fun. Whether you’re first team, second team, a dev, or a social member, you should feel completely at home at socials. Rugby can be intense, so socials should be where you switch off, have fun, and build strong friendships across the whole club.

Even though I’ve been an old girl for a while now, I still remember what it was like to be a fresher. When everything’s new, feeling welcome makes all the difference. I was lucky to have that experience, and I want to make sure every fresher gets it too. From the very start of the year, I’ll make it clear that no one is ever forced to do anything they’re uncomfortable with, and that I’m always approachable if anyone has concerns. I also want to create an environment where people feel confident to be themselves—because while I may not have grown upwards in the last three years, my confidence has definitely grown from being part of LUUWRUFC.

That being said, I want to put an emphasis on getting EVERYONE involved with social activities, keeping socials structured, and making sure the old girls get dicked on more, not just the freshers. As someone who has been a member of LUUWRUFC for 3 years now (bring on Ghost Charlie at next year’s family social), I have had the privilege of attending MANY awesome socials, so I believe I can be trusted to execute them right - I also have a strong understanding of the club’s traditions and what works when it comes to making socials successful. Socials have always been a part of the society that I look forward to, and I want to make sure all members of the club have that next year.

Alongside my experience in the club, I bring strong organisation and time management skills (if you don’t believe me, the NHS did—hence my year in industry). I’ve also worked in bars, where I was responsible for making sure people enjoyed themselves—even seven drinks into a bottomless brunch. That’s taught me how much of a difference good energy and organisation can make to a night, and I know I can bring that into this role.

In terms of the themes of socials, I plan to work with the other social secs to create a mixture of old school favourites and fresh, fun ideas. I want to spread more chaos evenly across the society, as no one is above the social secs at socials! This will include sillier costumes, occasionally mandatory face paint for all members, as it is all part of the fun. I want to make best and worst dressed a weekly title along with creative fines.

I would love to work in conjunction with the media sec by highlighting how good our socials are to prospective members, whilst also promoting our social membership to those who want to access a great community of people like us.

I think this year’s social secs did a great job at pushing for rugby families to spend time together at socials, and I want to push this even more at socials to help everyone feel like they truly belong.

Finally, due to the closure of our beloved old home Revs, I will work with committee to seek out a good alternative: somewhere close to Mischief, cheap drinks, with the same fun vibes Revs gave us before its untimely demise (RIP revs).

Hello LUUWRUFC!! My name is Eliza and this is why I should definitely be one of your social secs next year.

With almost 100% social attendance this year (sorry 2016 social), I think it is obvious to everyone that I love socials. Wednesdays are sacred to me, and I take them very seriously (often a bit too far). Whether I am playing or supporting, I truly believe that a social is the best way to celebrate and conclude a match day. #winnningwednesdays.

As your social sec, I will make it my personal mission to get everyone to love socials as much as me. Whether it is cheering you on in a boat race, giving you outfit tips for the excellent themes I have planned, or making a safe and comfortable space for you where you do not have to drink, I will be there. It is very important to me that everyone feels comfortable, no matter how far you take a night out (no more broken ribs ☹) …

In first semester, when playing in the devs, I got the opportunity to captain our side. I think my teammates would agree that I brought a loud, encouraging, and happy presence to the team and was determined to keep morale high, even after the final whistle. This season, when I haven’t been playing, I have tried my best to come and support the teams that are. I hope you have heard my ridiculously loud chants and my refusal to stop them until the game is done. These hype man skills are transferable to a social setting when I am supporting you through games and loudly telling you what to do.

As someone who came to uni never wanting to join LUUWRUFC, but is eternally grateful that she did, I am determined to create a fun environment not only at socials but on freshers’ fun day to encourage new members to give it a go and hopefully stay as I did. I know the role of social sec is a lot of fun and comes with a lot of power, especially over the freshers. I have had my fair share of fines this year and can’t think of a better way to recover than to do the same to some poor, unsuspecting first years. However, with great power comes great responsibility. I want to be someone that people can come to if they feel uncomfortable with anything and confide in if anything upsets them. Joining LUUWRUFC has been the best thing I’ve done this year, and I want to reciprocate that experience for the new members of our club.

Hi LUUWRUFC, I’m Martha, and I would absolutely love to be one of your social secs for next year!!

Wednesdays are the best day of the week at Uni, for #winningwednesdays and, of course, socials. Socials were such an amazing way to meet all my fellow freshies (nothing like a bit of trauma bonding) and get some questionable first impressions of old girls (cough cough Georgia Rat – the og smokers pisser – who Eliza and I got our chief pissing inspirations from). Socials really made LUUWRUFC easy to love and wayyyyyy less daunting in the first semester, especially when training could be overwhelming. As your social sec, I want to recreate the experience that I’ve had, with a slightly chaotic but friendly and fun environment where old girls can escape the stresses of Uni, and freshers can form new friendships and get to know each other.

Now, I know I can come across as quieter in training, but as many of you may have seen, I turn into a “gobby shite” after 1 drink. Also, shouting as a fullback is necessary, and I am good at doing that, so I can channel that energy and will bring it to socials. But I will not always let the power go to my head. I want to make sure that worried new members can still enjoy themselves and be comfortable coming to me with any concerns or issues. That being said, funnels are mandatory, and you will not be escaping your fines #moreswingingandshoeys

Finally, let’s talk about tour. This year, with the addition of Tour Sec, Social Secs can focus all their attention on planning the evening’s shenanigans and helping out with ideas and rankings. After all, your current TOUR B*TCH wants her revenge! #rigged
