Hola/ Olá SLAPpers,

As two outgoing, fun-loving amigas who believe that societies have shaped their university experience, we are applying to be your 2023-2024 social secretaries. With our great organisational and conversational skills, we thoroughly believe that we can play a great part in maintaining and improving the social aspect of this society and help it to thrive. We promise to always have the wellbeing of the society and its members at the forefront of our minds and plan for a great social calendar.

As your social secretaries, we promise to host a minimum of fortnightly socials that will involve and are great fun for everyone. We have a variety of social events in mind, such as Otley runs, tapas nights, pub quizzes, and of course club nights (#lovemischief). We are such Warehouse regulars that we are now Running Wild reps, meaning that we have lots of close links with local establishments which will enable us to plan many club-based socials, we know you all love a bit of Bobby’s. Of course, staying immersed within Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American culture is at the core of our aims for this society so expect some great nights at Bella Gente. Obviously, the all-important SLAP ball is a top priority, along with seasonal events such as a Christmas meal (did someone say Akmal’s...). Hopefully, it is on our agenda to organize a cheeky trip abroad- who wouldn’t fancy a weekend bender in Barcelona. Don’t worry, adhering to a student budget is our top priority, but if French and German can do it then why not SLAP. Aside from alcohol, we also highly appreciate a sober social and intend to host frequent meetups in sober settings. Indeed, we will strive to make a conscious effort to get to know everyone in the society and foster close relationships between all members.

Good organisation and coordination with the rest of the committee is vital (#SLAPsocMerch?) which we are more than capable of. Additionally, we have close links with other MFL society members, allowing for more opportunities, such as joint socials, to make even more friends.
