Hello everyone, I’m Hollie and I am in 4th year. Being in my second clinical year, I am confident that I have the necessary experience and knowledge to fulfil the role of clinical years rep. I have a particular interest in organising events specially catered towards clinical years that would be of benefit to them, such as practise OSCEs, clinical skills revision sessions and sessions geared towards building a surgical portfolio. Having intercalated after my 3rd year, I also could provide insight into the different options available to students. I did this in Clinical Anatomy, which is aligned with my longstanding passion for surgery and would potentially enable me to help out with anatomy revision sessions for both pre-clinical and clinical years. If I am elected, I will do my very best to make a valuable contribution to the society. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application!

Hi everyone, my name is Eepsha Hiraluge I am in fourth year medicine. When I saw this role was available, I knew I would be brilliant at it as I am confident at communicating effectively, organising events, and ensuring my clinical skills experiences are used to fulfil these roles. In particular to this role, I have had experience with mentoring three third year medical students in OSCE practise. I had taken the initiative of organising specific OSCE stations including advanced integrated stations to encourage them to spontaneously think in the moment. I have also generated feedback sheets of my assessment of the students using the curriculum study guides and other sources. I would therefore use these organisation and teaching skills to support the Cutting Edge Team. I am also currently a community speaker for Alzheimer’s UK, and I spend a few days of each month going to care homes, conference halls, family homes and many more to do talks to individuals limited on the knowledge of Alzheimer’s. I am therefore self-assured that I can communicate and listen effectively to ensure my role is fulfilled and, in this case- organising annual conferences & teaching sessions alongside the committee. In regard to surgical skills, I have had the privilege of working alongside Professor Andrew Bush, a consultant in Royal Brompton Paediatrics Hospital in London. In this honorary placement I had the opportunity of learning from incredible surgeons who taught me surgical skills of excisions of the skin, suturing, handling instruments, and a variety of surgical knots on a model. I would therefore be happy to use my skills to aid in any surgical teaching sessions. If I am elected, I know I will do everything I can for this committee and society. Hi everyone, I’m Aimann, a 3rd year medic. I’m confident I’ve got what it takes to make a great clinical years rep this year with my experience in event organisation, communication and liaising with surgeons. Last year, as CuttingEdge Conference Director, I almost single-handedly organised, planned and facilitated the surgical careers conference. The conference was a great success, having gathered just under 50 paying delegates. The agenda involved multiple talks given by consultants from various surgical backgrounds along with 3 different workshops: suturing practice, micro-origami and surgical speed dating. The conference was nominated in the Riley Awards for the best event under 50 attendees category. I hope to use the skills I have gained from this to plan further events this year catered towards the clinical years, such as suturing practice sessions and opportunities to network with surgeons and get involved with research and audit opportunities. Hi everyone, my name is Oscar, and I am in 3rd year. Although I have just started my clinical years in medicine, I am optimistic that I still have the necessary skillset for this role. With the previous clinical experience I have, along with my evolving understanding and interest of surgical medicine. I am confident I’ll be able to utilise this within the society and be a valued asset.
I aim to help organise and offer fresh perspectives on the fantastic events that cutting edge already put in place currently such as the mock OSCE’s, suturing series and various surgical conferences. I not only want to use my own ideas but seek to create an environment where the voices of my fellow clinical years students’ voices are heard. This means I can ensure each event ran covers areas as useful to students as possible, facilitating an enjoyable journey of building an early surgical portfolio.
Outside of medicine, I have a management role in my part time job, and I have always been a keen sportsman, instilling a sense of teamwork I have had from an early age. I believe my interests aside from medicine provides me with the leadership skills and approachability required for this position, alongside always striving to give my best effort.
