Hi, I'm Liv, a first year English Literature student and I'd love to be English Society's Secretary next year! I'm an organised, friendly and attentive individual with an absolute love for reading. My interests range from French modernism to American playwrights and dystopian literature so I’m always up for a good discussion (or debate!) about books.

I believe I am well suited to the role of secretary because of both my experience and my approach to working with others. I've spent the past year as a course representative in which I have acted as a bridge between students and staff, striving to drive forward change within the school, and feeding back on matters such as module requirements, managing staff absences & welcome week initiatives. This role has strengthened my communication skills and attention to detail, both of which are qualities that I would bring directly to the position of Secretary.

Having been Deputy Head Girl in sixth form, I have experience in positions of responsibility and know how to work as part of a leadership group. My responsibilities included taking meeting notes, planning & organising charitable events and liaising with senior members of staff to bring about new initiatives, so I am quite familiar with the demands of the role of secretary.

I’d love to continue some of the initiatives introduced by this year’s committee, such as the ‘Beginnings Book Club’ and the student/staff quiz nights, as well as organise new events for both freshers and returners to enjoy, like blind book swaps and book cover making. As an aspiring journalist, I would also be keen to collaborate with some of the media societies in joint events.

As Secretary, I would be committed to keeping the society organised, communicative, and welcoming. I would greatly appreciate your vote!

Hi! I’m Alice! I’m currently in my first year studying English Literature. I have been a member of the English Society this academic year and would love the opportunity to get involved and shape its future!

I believe I would be a valuable secretary because I have great organisational skills, an insatiable habit of writing things down, and an amazing memory especially when it comes to people and names. As an autistic person, I can provide a voice for those who might experience socialising within a society differently and ensure that everyone feels included.

I have experience working as a TA in a school, where I completed numerous risk assessments, used spreadsheets to manage parents’ evening appointments, planned many lessons, and even directed the school play. I also did a placement in a library which involved good timekeeping, organisation, communication and reliability.

My life revolves around literature: I can always be found reading, researching, attending literary events, conferences or seminar days and making literary pilgrimages to walk in the footsteps of my favourite authors. This Summer I’m going to the University of Venice to study Shakespeare’s The Tempest set against the wildly appropriate backdrop of the Venetian Lagoon. I’m always seeking out opportunities to engage with literature outside of my degree and would love to help find and plan bookish activities and excursions for the whole society!

Outside of the world of books you’ll find me: walking my dog, Cleo; at concerts; travelling & exploring and probably wearing the colour green exclusively (green is my whole personality atp).

As your secretary I will endeavour to:
• Ensure the society runs smoothly and efficiently.
• Advocate for all members and committee
to feel included.
•Listen attentively to ideas, suggestions and feedback from the committee and members to shape the society into collaborative, personalised space.
