I'm Niamh Roberts, a first-year student studying English literature. I am standing for the position of Social Media Secretary because I want to be part of shaping a society that is informed, expressive and representative of its members.

I understand the importance of media within the university, serving as a primary tool for engagement and showcasing all the amazing projects and events society members create and take part in. English society social media may be a member's first encounter with the society - I understand the significance of this and want to create a welcoming space that represents who we are and what we stand for as a society

If elected, my work would be guided by four key principles:

Integrity.
As social media secretary, I will vow to abstain from using artificial intelligence in the creation of posts. This is to ensure that it is the voice of the student body that is projected on social media platforms and not generalised, inaccurate data that risks misrepresenting the values of our society and the student body. Authenticity is essential in building a trusted, representative and empowered society, and I will protect this.

Creativity.
I want to bring a strong visual and creative identity to the society's social media. I have always loved art, and I'm enthusiastic about the opportunity to test my own creativity designing posts, graphics and collages that feel both cohesive and eye-catching. My goal is for our society's social media to not just be informative but enjoyable to follow.

Community.
Above all, I want our society to feel like a family away from home. A place where members can recognise themselves, get involved, cultivate lasting friendships and feel connected.
I want the social media to be available for more than just signposting events; it should offer support and a sense of belonging. University can be isolating, but our society shouldn't be.I believe our platforms can combat loneliness by encouraging involvement and celebrating the people who make our society so special.

Informed.

While promoting events is essential, I also want our platforms to highlight issues that matter to our members. This could include local initiatives in Leeds, literary conversations, or campaigns such as those opposing book bans. Social media can be a tool for awareness as well as celebration, and I want to use it responsibly.

What i also bring to the role is experience with LSR (Leeds Student Radio) which has taught me the importance of punctuality, fact-checking, and responsible content creation. From this alone, I've developed my communication skills drastically. I want to further improve within the role of social media secretary.
This role also aligns with my aspiration to become a journalist. I believe taking part in this role will not only be great for my CV but also teach me valuable skills whilst also contributing to a community I am passionate about.

Literature has been one of the biggest constants in my life. I can trace my growth through the books that have shaped me. I now want to use that passion to be a part of building a community in English society. I would love the opportunity to bring integrity, creativity and community to our online presence.

I want to share my passion for literature with you all and keep you updated with events both in the society and in/around Leeds - without boring you with disinteresting content! I'm incredibly creative and passionate about everything I do, so voting for me would mean that you've chosen someone who will go above and beyond for you!
