Hi I’m Grace and I am currently in my second year of Uni doing Sports and Exercise Science and have been a part of Ballet Society for the past two years now! This year I had the opportunity to be Ballet’s Intermediate Comp Team Captain, I have had the best time doing this and feel like I was able to create a positive and inclusive environment throughout the year and during our competition season, which showed in how much fun we all had! I really feel like I have learnt so much whilst being on committee this past year, the organisation and team work skills I have developed will help me to continue and expand on all the amazing work Maia has done this year as Welfare.

During my time at Uni I have made so many amazing friends that I have met whilst being in Ballet Society and have really felt the benefit of being welcomed so well and having opportunities to get to know people better. This is why I would aim for there to be even more chances to get to know each other through lots more sober socials! I would love to carry on the regular coffee meet-ups and include more night-in events such as movie and pizza night, and cute trips out to do pottery/glass painting, yoga classes and some Theatre trips too! I know how important it is to have time to chill away from the stress of Uni work or going out drinking, so I would be excited to make this aspect a bigger part of our society.

It has been so amazing to see how much money Ballet has already raised for our current charity BEAT and with this being such a brilliant charity that I really feel passionate about, it would be great to continue our support next year. It is so important to keep spreading awareness around this through campaigns like Love your Leo, which I think would be great to get more people involved in! With our society continuing to grow so much, I’d love to have the opportunity to collaborate with other societies like Modern Dance which a lot of us are also involved in, to fundraise together for another chosen charity. I know that Ballet is so great at fundraising and I can’t wait to see what more we can do!

If chosen for Welfare Officer, I really hope that everyone in ballet would feel like they can come to me with any worries and questions they may have, whether this be about starting at Uni, ballet classes or any other problems, I’ll always be up for a chat 😊 An idea I’d have for next year would be to aim to send a welfare form out regularly to introduce an easy way to communicate with me about these things, with it being an alternative to messaging me directly and the option to be anonymous whilst asking for advice or any questions you may have.

Hi, I’m Eva, and I would love to be your Welfare and Inclusion Officer next year! I am a third-year Law student pursuing a master's in Law and Social Justice next year.

I have been part of the ballet society for three years, and sadly, next year will (definitely) be my last year. I’d love the opportunity to take on this role, as ballet society has been a source of comfort throughout my time at the University. The friends I have made are genuinely life-long friends, and I would love to provide that same safe, welcoming, and positive experience for you all and anyone joining next year.

I want to be that point of call for everyone and be the person you feel you can talk to whenever you need it. I understand that opening up and reaching out can be difficult for many people, so I want to make it as easy as possible for you. Whether this is through a text message, email, phone call or grabbing a drink. I love to chat about anything and everything, and those stuck in the toilets in mischief with me know that I love to talk for ages. Furthermore, I am a great communicator and would be able to signpost you to the right person/service to talk to, or I’d be able to get the answer for you.

I am an avid social goer (at my big age) and will continue this next year. I’d be able to be a friendly face in socials and would love to foster an environment where everyone who wants to go to socials wouldn't feel afraid to go alone and make new friends. Furthermore, I would love to work with the social secs to put on fun sober socials and ensure everyone is included.

I have many ideas to promote well-being and inclusion. One that I think would be the most effective is ballet families! Ballet families will allow current members to talk to others they might not have before and allow freshers always to have a recognisable face in socials and classes. Introducing this to ballet would help with inclusion and allow first-years and others to feel more comfortable and confident, whether in socials or class.

As the society's charity secretary, I would aim to raise as much money as possible for charities that mean a lot to you. I’d like to do that by getting to know you all and finding out if any charities, in particular, mean something to you personally that we as a society could raise not only money for but also awareness around. This is something that I have felt really strongly this year with Maia’s choice of BEAT, and have been proud to be actively contributing to raising money for it.

One of my ideas to raise money next year is to work with the merch sec to have a piece of merch where part of the proceeds would go to charity. This way not only are we looking amazing in ballet blue but we are also donating to charity at the same time. Furthermore, with the show in March, I think raising money through a raffle during the break would be significant, especially if we have two shows again! I also believe that with many people leaving this year, an alumni meal would be a great way not only to raise money but also to give an opportunity for previous members to get involved.

I’d be so grateful to be your next Welfare and Inclusion Secretary and to give back to the society that I have loved for so long!

Hi there! It's Haniyyah Riaz but you can call me "Hani"! Having the potential to be your welfare and inclusion officer means the absolute world to me and is something I'm striving for. Mental health is a topic I have struggled with all my life and therefore I am extremely passionate about raising awareness and helping others. For me, ballet has been an important tool in my recovery journey and I hope to continue to make this society into a safe space for all my fellow survivors. My BEAT strategy is hopefully something you will find useful and if you want more sober socials, animal visits like puppy yoga and loads of fundraising fun, vote for me and I promise to help you feel seen as an important part of our community and continue on the amazing work of our previous 23/24 committee!
