Hi I’m Annabel and I’m currently in third year Economics and will be starting a Masters in Transport Economics next year. As my love for the society has grown over the last three years, I would love to become President for my final year with the society!

LUU Ballet society will be experiencing some exciting changes next year as one of our teachers leaves and the society continues to grow. My previous experience on Ballet Committee means I am the perfect person to lead us into next year. During my time as Vice President this year, I have worked alongside Claire and so I have an in depth understanding of the responsibilities and tasks of the President. This experience has helped me further improve my organization and communication skills, vital skills for the President. One unique aspect of being Vice President is that you often have to help out and take on the tasks of other committee members when times get busy. This has given me invaluable insights into all aspects of Ballet Society and will be very useful next year to ensure things run as smoothly as they can. Prior to being Vice President I was Intermediate Competition Team Captain. This role involved a lot of communication with dancers, teachers, and other universities, and required lots of collaboration with the Advanced Captain Hollie. I absolutely loved this aspect of the role and was glad to be able to continue working in a team with Claire this year. So, if successful, I will be very excited to work alongside the next Vice President. Being able to hand my current role over to someone I would be working alongside would also be really rewarding!

If successful in becoming President, there are a few specific things I would focus on continuing and some new ideas I would bring to Ballet Society next year. Firstly, as we are becoming bigger as a society, I definitely think it is time to add some more technique classes to our weekly calendar. It has been amazing to see so many more people joining our society and trying out ballet either for the first time or after having a break from dancing. Adding a few more technique classes means that more people can purchase a class, as all 7 of our classes sold out this year! In addition to this, I would aim to increase the number of repertoire workshops with guest teachers, and look into adding skills workshops to the calendar. These would be one off classes that anyone could attend to focus on specific skills, for example pirouettes. I think this addition would be fun because often we have to skip through sections quite fast during normal classes. In addition to this, I would love to bring back Class Reps. I was a Class Rep during my first year and I loved representing my class and being in charge of the groupchat, register and communication with the teacher. We could also hold Class Rep meetings to discuss how to integrate all our different classes better! Finally, if selected I think it is very important to continue the work Claire has been doing over the year to increase our links with Northern Ballet, particularly in relation to improving inclusivity within the society. This is something very important and so continuing this will be very rewarding to our members.
