Hi! I’m Hollie, and I would love to be the vice president for Ballet society next year! I am currently on my year abroad in the Netherlands and having an amazing time, but I can’t wait to get back to Leeds and back to ballet; having a year without this amazing society has motivated me to become more involved, I’ve missed the classes, comps and socials so much (the FOMO is SO real. Since I’ve spent a full year without dance, I am super excited to jump right back in, and would love to be in committee for my final year. In my second year I was the advanced competition captain which was so much fun, it taught me organisational skills and the way in which societies run, and I feel it has prepared me for this role. Being comp captain was the highlight of my year, I ensured the comp season ran smoothly, booking coaches, sending deposits, and being a point of contact between the teacher, Erica, and the team. I was comp captain alongside the incredible Annabel, we know we work well together and I’m looking forward to spending time working with old friends, and hopefully new ones! Working closely as a team was one of my favourite aspects of being comp captain; and I look forward to learning from and working with the president and the committee if I get this role.
As vice president, I would continue to work alongside the president to run the society, and be a friendly face around campus! I will continue to integrate all levels of the societies, ensuring everyone is included and feels comfortable, since I know how scary it can be going to that first class. Further, I will encourage more collaboration with our friends at modern and in other dance societies, as well as new societies. We plan to work alongside the treasurer to ensure prices remain low, to make ballet accessible for all, subsidising as much as we can as a society to ensure finances are not a barrier for people wanting to try ballet for the first time! I want to welcome as many people as possible in this society and to the sport, so we also hope to add new technique classes, since they are very popular! In a vice president role, your job is to support your other committee members in their roles when they get busy, I plan to maintain a constant communication with all members of committee to ensure the workload is always manageable! My previous experience as advanced comp captain and my understanding of society will aid me in this new role.
Ballet is the most incredible society and I would love the chance to be as involved as possible. Claire and Annabel have done an incredible job this year integrating all levels of the society would continue to be a main priority for me as vice president. I can’t wait to get back to Leeds and back to dance; the community, friends and opportunity for dance in Leeds is truly unmatched! I hope to help make it a great year :)
