Hi everyone, my name is Isha, and I am currently in 3rd year. I would love to be your LRMMS Charity Rep for 2026–27.

Over the past year, my interest in rheumatology has grown through my placement experiences. During my GP placement, I saw how chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, and disc-related conditions heavily impact a large proportion of the population. Seeing how these conditions have affected patients, as well as members of my own family, physically, emotionally, and economically has truly motivated me to learn more about this speciality. I also find it fascinating how rheumatological conditions can affect nearly every body system, including increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, interstitial lung disease, and eye complications. After listening to the Rheumatology Society talks on recent advancements in treatment and seeing the positive impact of steroid injections and knee replacements, I have come to really appreciate the breadth and scope of this speciality.

I believe my previous charity work and event organisation experience would equip me well for this role. This year, I was one of the flagship reps for Restart A Heart, where I was involved in organising events and volunteered to teach CPR to members of the public. In previous academic years, I have also volunteered with Leeds Heart Beats and Nutritank, helping to run events in primary schools to teach children about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles.

If selected for this role, I would be keen to organise educational events and fundraisers, as well as liaise with local and national charities to invite speakers to talk about their work. I would love the opportunity to work collaboratively with the rest of the committee to organise interesting, educational, and inspiring events for medical students. Being part of the LRMMS committee would provide me with valuable further insight into the speciality, and I would really appreciate your vote.
