Hi I’m Katie (she/her) and I’m a first year studying Physics with Astrophysics. I am retiring as the activities officer of High on Life to throw my hat into the ring for Secretary.

As activities officer I gained an understanding of how societies in the LUU operate and I think this is the perfect experience to be able to successfully navigate the secretary role. I am well organised, and this will enable me to carry out the role criteria for this position as well as sharing the responsibilities of other committee members.
As activities officer I was able to have a say in how the society was run and I enjoyed being able to influence the types of activities and events that were run. As Secretary I would like to further this by involving the members of the society more in these decisions. At the beginning of each month/semester I would invite members to suggest activities that they might like to see happen in those upcoming weeks and work with the rest of society to make them happen. This way I hope to achieve a more consistent attendance to all events. With the current committee we had some success with this through plant pot painting and the junkyard golf, but it would be great to make this a more regular conversation. Also, this would give members the chance to get to know the committee better and vice versa.

Overall, I have attended most of the High on Life events although a slight challenge for me was last semester as most of the events were on Wednesdays which clashed with football training, so I had to try to rotate my attendance between the two. I am aware that often other societies have more regular schedules, but I would be interested in trying to vary the days of the week that our events take place to try to allow more people to be a part of the society no matter what other societies they may also be a part of.
