Hiya!
My name is Emma, and I'm a first-year environmental science student. I've absolutely loved being in calsoc this year and would love to be your welfare and charity secretary in the coming year. I have lots of volunteering and fundraising experience, largely coming from my time working with children, leading me to develop excellent communication, listening and teamwork skills. Which means I have an extensive understanding of the many facets of the human experience, and there's nothing I haven't seen. I am also a massive people person and have been told that I'm very approachable, which I hope you'll be able to witness if you vote for me!

Leeds Calsoc has been the highlight of my uni experience! I have attended since freshers week of my first year, and have made some of my best friends (Evelyn!) and memories here. Learning reels and attending Ceilidhs has brought me so much joy and I was so grateful to have served as Practice Manager on the 2025/26 Committee. I truly love bringing people together, which is a goal that sits at the centre of all we do as a society and I would love to use my previous committee experience to develop the role of Welfare and Charity Secretary in 2026/27. I have experience working with charities, having served as an Ambassador for two such organisations, Penta Medical Recycling and Elizabeth's Legacy of Hope, as well as sitting on the Inclusion Board for the National Youth Ballet since July 2024. Through these roles I have learnt about charitable values and how to fundraise effectively, a skill I hope to utilise through a Calsoc charity initiative. For the welfare aspect, I would hold drop-in sessions to provide support where people need it and promote specific notable days through social media posts. I would also look into the steps towards getting Calsoc SASHA accredited and how to ease the financial burdens of our formal Ceilidhs. I will be adaptable and flexible; always open to suggestions as to how we can improve Calsoc. As a disabled person myself (diversity!), I understand the importance of creating an inclusive, accessible, and fun environment, and through this role I would ensure everyone feels welcome and comfortable at practice sessions and Ceilidhs! I love being positive throughout all I do, and I would strive to be an approachable figure within Calsoc to ensure everyone feels welcome, happy, and comfortable! Calsoc has made me so so happy throughout my time here and I would feel so honoured to serve as the Charity and Welfare Secretary in 2026/27!
