Hi, I’m Megan and I’ve been in the Performing Arts Society (PAS) for the past year. I am 20 and currently a second year, from a small town north of Manchester. I have always enjoyed theatre and singing especially! Hairspray, Mamma Mia, High School Musical and Camp Rock were the soundtracks to my childhood but once I got to high school I didn't pursue it anymore. After friends convinced me to do a show with them in my first year I knew in my second year I needed to continue my reinvigorated love for theatre! Which is when I found PAS!
PAS was the perfect theatre society for me as it was non-audition and was a much lower pressure environment. I was extremely nervous to attend the first meeting but with a bit of encouragement from my housemate I went, and I found an extremely welcoming society that put a lot of my nerves to rest. As president I want to continue this environment and attitude within the society that everybody is welcome. So that would lead me onto the big question; Why vote for me?
Well in terms of experience I have lots of leadership experience such as Head Girl where I managed a team of 15 senior prefects and looked after a wider team of over 100 prefects which enabled me to build the skills necessary to manage a team.
In my first year I was the Vice President and Secretary of the Devonshire Hall Residence Committee, where I helped organize the Christmas Ball, decorations for Formal Dinners, looked after the social media, and worked closely with the whole team to plan events.
Finally last year I was an unofficial adopted member of the baking society and assisted in the running of meetings and events.
I would like to be president of PAS because I believe I can help bring the society more exposure. I want people to know that being involved in theatre isn’t an audition only thing that needs a large time commitment, I want PAS to be seen as something for everyone whether they have been on stage their whole life or are just starting out, like I was. I want to keep the society as a low pressure environment where everyone has the opportunity to have their moment to shine.
Not only this but I want to introduce more things to help members learn more theatrical skills to help introduce/reintroduce them to the world of theatre! For example doing workshops with experienced students from inside and outside of the society. I think Performing Arts Society has the opportunity to be a society that allows everyone to feel important and the opportunity to develop and grow as a dancer, actor, singer or triple threat.

This year will be my third (and final :( ) year in PAS, so I really want to contribute and make a difference by running for the role of President! I have loved being a part of this society so much, and I am incredibly passionate about helping us to put on the best show possible, and to maintain our fun and welcoming environment. Being Secretary this year has taught me so much about how the society is run, and the dedication required for the role, as well as teaching me what I can do to make sure everything is running smoothly. I’m incredibly dedicated and committed to the society (I haven’t missed a social yet ;) ) and feel like PAS is truly a society where you can make friends for life. I want to ensure that PAS remains an incredible place to enjoy theatre without the pressure and constraints of auditions and exclusivity. Being president, I would ensure that PAS is a society where people of any skill level in performance feel comfortable and welcome, and that they have the resources and opportunity to develop their skills as much as they’d like.

I have done theatre for 10 years now, and it has always been a passion of mine, so I feel I have an extensive knowledge of musicals and techniques that I can bring to the group, as evidenced by helping with choreography for the show, as well as occasionally stepping in to help with singing class. I have so many ideas for the society and the showcase next year that I can’t wait to share, so please consider voting for me so that I can continue to make PAS the amazing society that it is!
