LUUMCC has become the single best thing about my experience at university. The club has been going from strength to strength in recent years and I would love the opportunity to try and further what is already the greatest society in Leeds. I think anyone who knows me would be able to tell you how much the club means to me – and my attendance at club events echoes this: I have attended training sessions for all three squads this year as well as playing in the indoor league and organising and leading the football team. As well as this, I have missed three socials in my entire uni career and am partial to a rollover every now and again… This has given me an all-encompassing understanding of the club, its members, and how special both really are.

On why I believe I am the man for this job, a few main reasons spring to mind. First and foremost, I will always prioritise the strength and values of the society over anything else, balancing the social and cricketing sides of the club. I am fully aware that this club is far bigger than myself and any other individual. I will endeavour to leave the club better than I found it for future members – despite them being silly freshers. Organisationally, I have experience successfully leading teams in many different facets of my life (including the football side this year (who are currently second in the league and beat B******)). To do this, I would look to maintain open, honest, and effective lines of communications with all of the committee and the club as a whole. I also back myself when communicating to other, more formal, organisations both for positive reasons and in smoothing over potential issues. Finally, I am also self-aware enough to know that I will not know the answer to every question. However, I am willing to ask for help when I need it – whether that be other committee members or past club captains, of which I know the previous five.

With regard to plans for the year, I believe that that club is very strong at the moment and nothing needs to be changed drastically. I do, however, believe that it is important to take advantage of the current strength of the club. I feel that the society now has an opportunity to do some amazing things – things that can raise serious money for charity, things that will further improve our profile, and things that will grow the status of Leeds cricket both within the university and in the wider community.

Generally, I believe that I am in the best possible position to lead UoLMCC into next year. I am incredibly passionate about this club and am willing to put in all of my time and effort into making our society the absolute best it can be.

LUUMCC has been the constant in my three years at university and I'd love nothing more than to be Club Captain of this great club during the 2023/24 academic year. During these three years, I have seen the club do incredible things both on and off the field, whether that be reaching a 1st XI BUCS final in 2022, raise thousands of pounds during Movember in first semester or put on some of the most incredible events including the Cricket Ball and Varsity, the list is endless. My application for Club Captain is aimed at building on the already fantastic infrastructure this club has by creating greater transparency and accountability of what the committee is aiming to do, collaboration with other societies, strengthen our relationship with the union, build on the work done this year to make varsity an even bigger event and increasing the cricketing provision by setting up a fourth XI. I will ensure the committee meet monthly to ensure this accountability and transparency is achieved.

I believe I am capable of doing this role to a high standard having been involved with the club for three years, knowing its calendar inside out and living with two of the exec I know the demands that this role has well. Additionally, I am well acquainted with both Headingley and Andrew Lawson to ensure our cricketing provision is as widespread as it is this year and be well placed to recommend aspiring cricketers to the UCCE. In terms of cricket, I have been involved in the professional set-up at Sussex CCC for two years so know well what it takes to run a high-class training and playing programme. Three seasons of first team cricket for LUUMCC stand me in good stead to know what is required to get the club in good shape for the season as well as what it takes to win trophies and achieve promotions.

I also know that the cricket club is unique in that the social side of things form a larger part of our calendar than other societies. So, despite the seriousness of this statement, I want people to know that I will ensure the social side of the society continues to grow and flourish as it has since the pandemic. This is because whether it be socials, rollovers, the golf days or the ball, the social side is what makes this society such a special club to be a part of and I wouldn’t want to change any part of it.

I have previous leadership experience having been Head of School during sixth form where I learned the skills of delegation, time-management, how to run meetings and that being a leader means you are constantly judged and a reflection of the school, society or team which you represent. I may not have had a committee role in the past but whenever I have volunteered or been called upon to help the club, whether that be running from 4am-6am in the 24-hour run, getting my ‘Baggy Green’ for five 1st XI appearances, co-organising the indoor side, I have always given my undivided attention to the task in hand and therefore would love nothing more than to be given the opportunity to be your Club Captain next year.
