When I first joined the club, in September 2021, the first thing I was told was that “LUUMCC will be the cornerstone of your time at university”. At the time, I almost overlooked this, however, looking back, it has become clear just how true that statement was. No matter what has happened and changed throughout my university life, the one pillar that has always been there, is LUUMCC.

One of the best, and most important things the club get involved with is our charity work. As you all know, this year I became the club’s Social Media Secretary, and have made every effort to ensure I’ve fulfilled this role as best as I possibly could, attending and helping at all charity events. Staying up for 24 hours to meet our Movember runners at each changeover, looking back was a great thing to do, at the time it certainly didn’t seem this way.
This year I also ran the club’s Movember page, in our most successful Movember campaign ever, raising a club record £3098, more than double our previous record. With this I shared our members own experiences through ‘Mental Health Mondays’, so thank you to members who bravely shared their stories in support of this.
Off the back of this, I organised for Mark, from the charity Opening Up Cricket’ to come in and give both our club, along with the women’s club, a talk on mindfulness and mental wellbeing through cricket, which, in my eyes, was a great success.

What I would do in the role:

I would continue the fantastic work Brendan has done this year, keeping members informed of everything that is going on, and continue the charity element of my current role, especially within promoting the conversation around men’s mental health, and breaking the stigma around the topic.
I would ensure there is a good communication channel within the committee, and work with other committee members to promote the work they are doing.
I would also take on the full responsibility of the organisation of our annual cricket ball, with the aim of keeping it a special night whilst keeping in mind student’s budgets.

Finally, I would keep one thing at the forefront of my mind in all my decisions next year - the continual growth and success of UoLMCC – the club that we all know and love.

As I’m sure is the exact same for so many of you, this cricket club has been without a doubt the best part of my university experience. Whether its socials, training sessions or charity events, LUUMCC has provided so many opportunities to meet a great group of blokes, play cricket and just generally make the most of university. Without sounding too generic, I would love the opportunity to be able to give something back to the club that has already given me so much. I think a great way of doing so would be being secretary and being able to organise and run some of the events that make the club so special.

Being on the committee this year as Dev Sec, has been something that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Whilst being a great opportunity to get to know a lot more people in the society, it has also allowed me to demonstrate how committed I am to the club, my good organisation skills, and develop a greater understanding of how the club runs. I believe that I have stepped up to this role well, and I hope to get the opportunity next year to step up once more with an executive role. I like to think have somewhat helped in making the development squad increasingly integrated with the rest of the society where in previous years, a gap has existed. If elected for secretary, this would continue to be a key goal for me – striving to make the club as good of an experience for as many people as possible.

In order to do so, I think it is important to continue to provide more events at the club don’t revolve around drinking such as Tribe, spinning, football, charity run etc. Being a fitness badger myself and loving a few beers on a Wednesday, I believe that I would be a good candidate to provide a level of balance within the club. I believe that I am an approachable person, so hope that people would be encouraged to come with me their ideas/ thoughts about how we can progress. I believe that the club is in a strong place at the moment and am excited by the prospect of being part of a committee that can make the club even stronger.

Dear All,

This year I’d like to put my name in the hat for Secretary. As I’ll be entering the fourth year as part of the club, I thought that it’s right for me to add something more to a society that has given so much to me over the years. I would love to have the opportunity to shape the club in a way that I see it best. These three core values represent that:

1. The key to the club and why we all love it is how inclusive it is. This is so important to me. Although it can seem a bit daunting at the start, you soon realise that this club is full of likeminded people who you can trust. I’d like to be the person to ensure this culture continues.
2. Coordination and communication - the only way the society can run is by the committee and the club as a whole having regular and good communication. This was done well this year but is certainly not easy.
3. Ambition for the club to grow - there’s always so much that we, as a club, can achieve. Just look at the 24hr run we did this year! I would like to push for more new non-cricket events going on.

I hope those key principles chime with you all too. Having been in and around the committee over the last two years and seen how the exec go about it, I have a good grasp on how its all run.
