Hey everyone! I’m Leah, a third year BA Music student and a manager for Chorus and I would love to be your Departmental Rep for this year. Having spent my whole time at university in the School of Music, I know that I could continue the good relationship that LUUMS has with the SoM by building on the relationships that we already have and forming new ones for the years to come.

I would liaise with the LUUMS exec to highlight the issues that the society wants to address with the School to plan how we could best communicate with them what would be beneficial for us. My main aim is to create solutions that are advantageous for both LUUMS and the School of Music so that we can create an environment that helps every musician grow in their career.

To do this, I aim to create workshops run by industry professionals/ people in the SoM and LUUMS about professional practices. In our degree courses, we can fall into the trap of focusing solely on our academic pursuits and we lose sight of our wider marketability. I would focus on workshops about songwriting/ composition, music industry/business, music psychology in practice, musicians rights/ unions and more! I would make sure that I could meet the needs of all LUUMS members so that you can learn everything that you want to learn about music outside of your degree. Some of the companies I would aim to talk to you all would be record labels, PRS and PPL, Ditto music and other distribution services and more. Also, I would look at the expert knowledge that we have right here in this building with our amazing lecturers and fellows.

To put all of what you would learn into practice, I would love to run open mic nights, socials and gigs to showcase all of the amazing talent we don’t get to see on an everyday basis from you all (and planning LUUMS week of fun to be the most entertaining time ever for a lot of our last weeks in LUUMS).

Finally, I would be perfect for this role because I am approachable, engaged and reliable. I am organised so I will be able to stay well ahead of the responsibilities in my role (Chorus girlies can confirm with our favourite spreadsheet). I would love to be able to fill this role and make LUUMS and the SoM an even bigger destination for higher education in music.

Hi, I'm Annie. I'm a second year Music and Music Psychology student. I'm really excited to share all my ideas for talks and concerts for LUUMS (on my poster). I've got great organisational skills and past experience in volunteering roles. I'm heavily involved in LUUMS as a member of the Symphony Orchestra, SWO, Brass Band and the Composers Collective. Music has always been such a huge part of my life and I would be delighted to work with the other members of the exec to create a fun and positive atmosphere! :)
