Before starting at Leeds in 2019, I remember the only thing I was sure of doing here was joining BPM, which was exactly the first thing I did. The DJ world can be quite daunting for someone with no experience of it bar walking to school listening to mixes and grooving in clubs whenever possible. This nervousness vanished instantly when I met the then-committee, who provided a judgement-free space for education and super fun events.

From here on as Media Manager of BPM (2020-22), I’ve been equally determined to continue our antics that began way back in 2009, including this year, where I’ve participated in them remotely since temporarily moving to Berlin.

Being a minority group in the scene or not having friends with expensive decks shouldn’t have to be a reason you can’t try your hand at mixing; my particular aim in the 2 years I’ve been on the committee is increasing this accessibility. Having written extensive analyses for Lippy Magazine on this subject and and played at various charity events, I’d love to work with the committee next year in exploring how we can implement this in our work to make the most out of the abundance of talent we have in the Leeds student community.

Also, let’s face it: the past few years have sucked for nightlife and I’d love to continue the work of current President Naomi and our team in re-invigorating BPM with the events and workshops we’ve had to go without for a while.

If you’ve been a member of BPM this past year (welcome!), you’ve likely interacted with me, whether that’s been through Instagram, the content I’ve created, the BPM radio or various chats I’m on. It would be great to meet you again, this time in a different role.
