Throughout my time at the University of Leeds, I have dealt with a whole manner of issues including the onset of a disability. I was grateful to be surrounded by a personal support network but frequently felt that the support provided to me as a computer science student was lacking. By running for this role I hope to improve the support provided to students to help deal with any and every issue that is raised by our members. As well as creating an inclusive environment that prioritises every member of this society.

My name is Shruti, a 2nd year BSc Computer Science student from Dubai. In my opinion, meeting new people and making friends on this course was particularly tough last year because of covid restrictions. Reinstating CompSoc would definitely help overseas students like myself feel more welcome at UoLeeds.

As Inclusion and Diversity Secretary, I aim to work with the Social and Industrial Secretaries to plan a variety of exciting and inclusive weekly social events that provide students with an environment where they feel comfortable to network & connect with their peers. I'd like to help plan game nights, day trips, brunch meets, dinner socials and more!

Further, I hope that CompSoc encourages more women and POC to take on leadership roles as well as participate in hackathons and external events. I believe that inclusivity goes beyond just race and gender but also includes field of study. I would like to work towards opening the doors of CompSoc to anyone interested in technology, including students from other programs!
