Hi everyone, I’m Robin (he/they) and I’m a second-year mechanical engineering student and I’m running for the position of chair. I believe I’d make a good committee member overall as I have previous committee experience, having spent the last year on the women’s football committee. I regularly attended meetings with activities in the union, have experience using engage and the general organisation of a union society. I’m very involved in the Leeds queer community, frequently attending events and fundraisers. I also run women and non-binary university social football as well as a grassroots trans and nonbinary football team in Leeds. In first year, LGBTsoc was very important for me in finding a queer community when moving to university, I want to ensure that other students have the same experience, whether they are new to university or returning.
As chair I will:
- Plan frequent events in partnership with other university societies as well as local lgbt+ organisations.
- Create more opportunities for queer students to get involved in sports.
- Support the other committee members and make sure everyone’s views are communicated and represented
