Who Am I?
Hi, I'm an international student from Sri Lanka who's loved living in Leeds for the past year. During this time I picked up a liking for English 8-ball pool. When I'm not miscuing, I'm queueing up at the Edge to go swimming or to play badminton - and I wouldn't say no to chucking a frisbee about or a game of football. I'm a fan of EDM music and enjoy gaming when I've got the time, rarely, especially first person shooters. If there's one thing I would want to do before I die, It's to go skydiving.

Why Me?
I enjoy learning new things and teaching even though it's usually silly things like new grenade angles on Call of Duty. I have experience tutoring part time in Sri Lanka - Maths, Chemistry and Physics - and am considering doing it more seriously over the summer.
My plans for my time at PALS, apart from providing scintillating summary PowerPoints of course, involve flashcards - made by me and more information on how to make them using RemNote - mock exams (more of them), Q&A sessions and an anatomy lab visit - which I know was on the cards last year as well but hopefully we'll be able to pull through. I would like to test hosting little deep dives into some of the clinical cases for anyone who is interested (as it may not be the most helpful come exam time in first year but is nice to know nonetheless). We'd be tweaking all this based on feedback obtained via Forms but also other alternative methods (because I know I've probably replied to like 25% of the Forms feedback requests).

My goal is to help first years get into the groove of things - by making the initial transition to self studying easier and highlighting and supplementing the things they learn later on in the year. PALS' concise summaries really helped me consolidate what we'd learned and their mock exam came in clutch at the end of the year. I will always be an advocate of their mindset of its better to ask a dumb question and get it clarified than to suffer in silence.

I would like to be a PALS1 co-lead, as I have a strong grasp of the Year 1 syllabus, especially components like I&P and Body systems. It is no secret that in first year, you are exposed to huge amounts of content so it is extremely important to correctly interpret the learning objectives and consequently differentiate between the concepts to be learned and those to be disregarded, which is a skill I have developed a good understanding of, over the past year. Furthermore, I have been able to successfully simplify a lot of the complex topics to make them easier to understand and would massively appreciate the opportunity to share these techniques with the upcoming cohort. Finally, leveraging my vast experience in giving presentations and partaking in activities such as tutoring, I firmly believe that I am a strong candidate when it comes to teaching and, in general, delivering information in a clear and concise manner. Hi, my name is Lewis and I’m running to be one of the Year 1 PALS co-ordinaries for 23/24. Last year, I delivered IMS Endocrinology, BS Respiratory 1+2 and Renal. Working with other students, we received really good feedback and I’d hope to incorporate this into PALS next year.

If elected, I will ensure there will be more multiple choice questions/quizzes with detailed answers provided, so that the slides themselves are a great revision resource. Another popular aspect of my sessions were their informal, personable approach - I feel that with revision, presenting content in a different way to lectures is important and a relaxed environment goes a long way in helping people cope with exam stress. I would aim to make revision more bearable by using clinical scenarios and applications to make content more interesting, and by focusing strongly on the more high yield aspects of the curriculum, to help people narrow down their workload.
