I am thrilled to apply for the position of secretary for Cutting Edge, a surgical club that shares my passion for advancing the field of surgery. As an organized and detail-oriented individual, I am confident that I possess the necessary skills to effectively manage the administrative tasks of the club. Additionally, my strong communication and interpersonal skills will enable me to collaborate effectively with other members of the executive board and represent the club professionally in all settings. I am eager to contribute my time and energy towards promoting the goals of Cutting Edge and supporting its members in achieving their professional aspirations.

Hello everyone, my name is Katherine and I am applying to be Secretary for Cutting Edge next year!

Over the past 2 years I have been an active member of Cutting Edge Society, including having taken on the role of pre-clinical representative on last year's committee. Through this I have gained essential insight into the running of Cutting Edge, having had the opportunity to attend, assist at and organize multiple events, ranging from the surgical careers conference to the suturing series. Additionally, I have helped facilitate teaching sessions such as the Anatomy revision series for Year 2 students, which involved working with an FY2 doctor and students from other universities to deliver a highly successful revision resource that was awarded Best Virtual Initiative at the Worsleys Awards Ceremony.
Further to this, working as a 2nd year representative on MSRC has developed my organizational and teamwork skills – through attending and taking minutes at regular meetings with University Staff, arranging Medical School merchandise and MUMs events, to collecting and acting on students’ feedback.

These experiences have emphasized the crucial role Cutting Edge plays in allowing students to explore and progress into a surgical career and hopefully demonstrate I have the necessary qualifications and drive for the role of Secretary. I would love to have the chance to use the knowledge I have gained to ensure Cutting Edge continues to organize and execute similarly successful and helpful events. In particular, I am passionate about facilitating more collaborative events with other societies and medical schools and providing further opportunities for students from all backgrounds to build their surgical portfolios – through the continuation and expansion of the mentorship program, further surgical skills workshops and career pathway/advice talks and conferences from an even wider range of surgical specialisms. I also aspire to orchestrate a society trip to a surgical conference.
