Hello everyone, my name is Mohima and I’m excited to be running for Skills and Education coordinator for Cutting Edge this coming year! I am currently the Diversity and Inclusion officer for Cutting Edge, this role has allowed me host events involving EDI, Disabilities in Medicine, Neurodiversity, and a successful Women in Surgery conference. My experience has allowed me to run both online and in person events, I have also attended and assisted in multiple Cutting Edge events throughout the year and have ran Surgical skills workshops with Sixth form students. Being on the committee for two societies in the past, has allowed me to build up a list of skills and contacts I am hoping to put to use in organising more successful events for Cutting Edge. This time, I would like to build on my interests in hands-on and collaborative learning. I am hoping to organise a teaching series throughout the year to help students build upon their surgical knowledge whether that is academically, practical skills or portfolio building. I would also like to put my prior experience to use by organising a skills workshop in the term 1 annual conference that is both interactive and enjoyable. After feedback from students throughout the year, I would work closely with the Exec team to ensure there is equipment to allow events to run smoothly and ensure our members are satisfied. I am an upcoming third year medical student with a strong interest in surgery, writing to apply for the Skill and Education Coordinator position for Cutting Edge. My strong interest in surgery and commitment to teaching make me an ideal candidate for this position.


During my first two years of academic study, I have developed a solid foundation in anatomy, physiology, and related medical conditions, reflected by A* in the final formative result. I also put passion into teaching, with which I have designed and led two successful PALS revision sessions, receiving positive feedback from first year students. I believe my knowledge and commitment will enable me to communicate and work effectively with other like-minded colleagues to organize engaging activities and design relevant teaching sessions to help more students with the same passion in surgery.

Additionally, I have attended several surgical talks, one conference, and have served as a mock patient for the OSCE exam in these two years. The efficiency and clarity of the organization, the smooth cooperation within the members, and the level of quality of every activity have shown me everyone’s dedication to the society’s aim and goal, and I am eager to be part of this mission.

I am confident that my enthusiasm for surgery and dedication to excellence enables me to effectively represent the society and its reputation in Leeds medical school, and I am eager to contribute to Cutting Edge's mission and initiatives.
