I am excited to apply for the position of Clinical Years Representative for the Surgical Society. As a dedicated and motivated medical student with a passion for surgery, I believe I have a lot to offer to the society.

One of my key strengths is my ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others. I believe that in order for the society to thrive, it is important for all members to work together towards a common goal. As a Clinical Years Representative, I will strive to foster a positive and inclusive environment where all members feel welcome and supported. Having sat on the committee for a year already I feel as though I have much more to give!

In addition, I am committed to helping organise events and initiatives that will benefit both the society and its members. Whether it is organising surgical skills workshops or inviting guest speakers to share their experiences, I am eager to contribute my time and energy towards making these events a success.

Hi I’m Sienna, and I am applying for the role of Clinical Representative for Cutting Edge. I have a keen interest in surgery demonstrated by my participation in surgical skills training sessions and conferences which have deepened my understanding of surgical concepts. Over the past year, I have actively participated in various committees, including PALS and the British Sign Language (BSL) Society. These experiences have provided me with valuable insights into working within a committee environment and effectively communicating as part of a team. My involvement in PALS has given me firsthand experience in liaising with students and staff members, which I believe will be a valuable asset in this role. In addition, my role as the Social Media Representative for the BSL society has allowed me to engage with a wide range of individuals and collaborate closely with different societies to organise informative and engaging events. With my aforementioned skills and strong work ethic, I hope to be able to contribute to the improvement of access to enriching teaching sessions through this role. I am excited about the opportunity to be a part of this society and work alongside like-minded individuals.

I am an upcoming third year medical student with a strong interest in surgery, writing to apply for the Clinical Representative position for Cutting Edge. My strong interest in surgery and commitment to teaching make me an ideal candidate for this position.


During my first two years of academic study, I have developed a solid foundation in anatomy, physiology, and related medical conditions, reflected by A* in the final formative result. I also put passion into teaching, with which I have designed and led two successful PALS revision sessions, receiving positive feedback from first year students. I believe my knowledge and commitment will enable me to communicate and work effectively with other like-minded colleagues to organize engaging activities and design relevant teaching sessions to help more students with the same passion in surgery.

Additionally, I have attended several surgical talks, one conference, and have served as a mock patient for the OSCE exam in these two years. The efficiency and clarity of the organization, the smooth cooperation within the members, and the level of quality of every activity have shown me everyone’s dedication to the society’s aim and goal, and I am eager to be part of this mission.

I am confident that my enthusiasm for surgery and dedication to excellence enables me to effectively represent the society and its reputation in Leeds medical school, and I am eager to contribute to Cutting Edge's mission and initiatives.

Hi everyone I'm Hasan - I'm running for Clinical Years Rep for the next year. There's many opportunities I'd like to bring to Medical Students at Leeds including Clinical Revision Sessions, OSCE Practice, and organising Research Opportunities for students in desired specialties. I have passion for organising events, first-aid, suturing workshops and teaching sessions. I set up a company that runs tutoring, teaching sessions and workshops for A-Level students to perfect their grades and get into medicine for the last 2 years. This has given me in depth knowledge of how to organise events and workshops. One of the biggest struggles of Medical Students is finding research opportunities with surgeons in their desired specialities and as Clinical Lead I will actively find and organise this time for students myself.

I love what Cutting Edge has going right now but I think we can make it more organised, efficient and informative in the years going ahead with myself as Clinical Lead.

Hello, my name is Marina Costa and I want to take the role of Clinical Years Rep in next year's committee.
Being a member of this society this year made me get involved in so many opportunities, from suturing workshops to getting involved in surgery so this role would mean that I would be a part of providing fascinating experiences to current and future members.
This year I was a Pre-Clinical Rep for the Oncology Society which made me gain and expand competences such as organisation for talks and conferences, teamwork, problem-solving and quick thinking when surpring inconveniences would show up, and listening and communicating ideas with a group with a common goal.
I believe the work that has been done by the year representatives in this society is great with events that made a huge impact on me as it has made me aware of my strenghts and weaknesses as well as academic interests. I want to continue the amazing work by still providing OSCEs preparation, conferences and teaching sessions. I want to get students involved in networking with current surgeons, surgery-focused academic writing as well as providing information and supporting electives, intercalation year, exam season and the shifting from a student to a doctor.
I know this role is a challange as going to Year 3 in September, my clinical experience is limited; however, I am aware that my past experiences, current skills and engagement with the society shape me for this role.
