Hey I’m Ellie, a first year studying Politics. I would love to be your welfare sec for 2025/26 as I am passionate about wellbeing particularly for freshers as coming to Uni can be daunting. Two years ago I helped to set up a charity that is based on helping people with their wellbeing and providing resources. My main idea is that I would start weekly posts for the instagram that combine wellbeing with current issues within politics.

Hello everyone! I'm Alex, a Politics and Philosophy Student going into my final year. You may recognise me as your current President but, as with all good things, that must come to an end. However, I'm sure you'll all be thrilled to see I'm running for Welfare Sec. The explanation behind this is simple.

During my tenure we made great progress in 2024/2025 on introducing more sober socials and wellbeing events. Now I’m free from any other responsibilities I’d be able to fully focus my efforts onto pushing for more of these.

Firstly, I'd increase the amount of posts surrounding mental health awareness in order to foster a more inclusive community. Secondly, I'll push for an optional opt-in based mentoring scheme available to all in the society that would create a stronger support network and a more inclusive society. Thirdly, I'd listen to the people. As an avid enjoyer of democracy, I support the use of regular interaction with members in order to see what forms of support everyone wants in order to create the best POLISSoc possible.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. A guy promising the world to a bunch of voters he's barely met. You've seen this one before. He's probably lying.

Well, not this time.

I'm Kieran. I actually care about mental health, having been on the business end of some pretty nasty bullying in my time. Uni is all about working hard and playing hard. Smashing it in lectures and in the club, but doing so in a healthy way. And that's where I come in.

I intend to introduce weekly check-ins for any POLISSOC member who fancies one, be at all alcohol-involved socials as a sober friend so if there are any problems-or if you are a bit lonely-you're not alone.

Additionally, I will be introducing a 'guardian angel' policy where every POLIS member is randomly assigned another member to watch out for and support. This worked really well when I was at NYT and created a far more cohesive community that always watched over and cared for each other! Sounds cool, right?

In general, if you need a friendly face or a chat within POLISSOC, look no further. I'm 6 foot 5. You may find it hard to do so anyway. But that's okay.

A vote for me is a vote for a better POLIS community. One that has each other's backs. A vote for me is a vote for a happier, healthier community. That means a happier and healthier you. And a happier and healthier everyone.
