Hi my name is Luca and I hope to become president of POLISOC for 2025/2026 academic year. I feel that I would make an awesome POLISOC president because I am passionate about Politics; yet I am even more passionate about encouraging my fellow POLIS students to engage more with the POLIS society! As a person of an ethnic minority living in the UK I was always keen to learn more about Politics and International Relations; and how issues such as racism, war, prejudice and terror threats effect minorities like me in the UK. I've always had a real apetite to learn more about the issues this world faces which is why I chose to study Middle Eastern Studies and Politics at Leeds. I have come to really immerse myself in Politics and this is evident as some of you may know me as the guy that "always asks questions during lectures". This is a testament to my ability to always ask why; to always enquire about issues; to see how they may be resolved. These are skills that I will of course be transferring to my presidency if I get elected. Don't worry I won't be asking you all questions! Rather; I will always be asking myself and the rest of the committee; how? How might we accomplish great things for POLIS students, how might I improve POLISSOC? How might we include the most marginalised members of the POLIS community within POLISOC to feel encouraged and empowered?

I believe with the correct management, that I can competently offer, POLISOC can become a great place for us as POLISOC students to all come together, make friends with one another, and truly thrive. During my tenure if elected I will make POLISOC one of the best societies at LUU. I plan on holding regular study sessions and work shops to help POLIS students thrive to the best of our ability. I also plan on working with my fellow social secretary to help deliver to you the best social events that you as POLIS students deserve! If you vote for me I will help to give you the best version of POLISOC that I can give you.

Hey, I'm Lucy Hart, and I am an International Relations student and your current Union Affairs & Communications Officer. I am running to be your next POLIS society President! In my second year I was Social Secretary of this brilliant society where I organised talks with MPs, arranged secret socials in different cities and even a trip to Berlin!

This year I have been the Union Affairs and Communications Officer where I have represented 40,000 students at Leeds University Union. In this role I have displayed my leadership skills chairing LUU Board of Trustees, listening/taking feedback from student groups and working with national, civic and university decision makers including Alex Sobel MP. I will use this experience to empower the POLIS committee and lead this society!!

I envisage POLISSOC to not only be a fun society but also ensure POLIS student voice is at the heart of the University (or should I say Hart!)

What I want to achieve as President....

- Use the existing connections I have with the City Council, MPs local and Senior University staff to arrange talks for members
- Support committee with arranging fun events such as a Winter Ball, club nights and trip abroad
- Utilise my knowledge and strong relationship with LUU to ensure we support all members and assist with issues on their course
- Chair fun and regular committee meetings to organise events for our members
- Advocate on behalf of POLIS students and ensure they are represented within university

Hey everyone Henry here :)
I have enjoyed being a member in Polissoc in my first and second year, having made friends with many coursemates through it!

If elected, I will aim to better a sense of community among people who study politics. Or simply who are just interested in Politics!

I will introduce bi-weekly politics talks by local MPs, councillors and professors. I will encourage political discourse around their ideas through Q&As and promote civil debate!

I will also introduce a Political Theory reading group where everyone is free to bring ideas they have thought of concerning books, articles they read recently about politics, and unadulterated opinions, anything of that sort, to be civilly discussed!

I will also introduce a form of speedfriending where people will be sorted into groups according to the modules they are doing. This will help create social cohesion and alleviate loneliness in contact hours. University throws you into the deep end socially and people can feel left out, lets remedy that!

Afterwards, people will be free to cross-pollinate, with people in other modules and year groups!

I also have connections to societies such as LUUDebate, Policy Institute, MUN, Amnesty and more! This will allow for more cross-pollination and more fun political activities.

I am also well connected with Beckett's politics community, let's have more inter-university dialogue and pollination!
