Welfare is a role I think is incredibly important both online and offline. With a society as large as eSports and interactions taking place all the time in the server it is important to ensure all members feel safe and able to participate.

You may already know me as one of the Valorant Ambassadors and during my time as ambassador I have seen importance of safe gaming spaces through the establishment of Women’s and Non-Binary tournament. I have also had the chance to participate in the Valorant W+NB team as well as mixed gender Overwatch through my 3 years in Leeds eSports. The safety I’ve felt whilst being a member of these teams (both mixed gender and W+NB) is something I wish to uphold if I am elected, so that other people who previously hadn’t envisaged themselves participating in eSports can continue to be welcomed.

I will do this by:
-being someone approachable and ensuring that the society is a place where members feel safe coming to the committee with issues.
-being present in committee meetings to ensure they run smoothly and everyone’s voice is heard.
-finding and making resources easily available for home and international students.
-implementing an established process of handling complaints, ensuring issues are resolved to whatever extent is possible and follow ups are made. all of this whilst maintaining confidentiality.
-maintaining an open dialogue with the union welfare rep.
-attending union well-being group meetings (if held this year) and through this maintaining communication with wellbeing reps from other societies.
-ensuring society events welcome everyone and appeal to the broad majority of the society; for example events continuing to welcome non-drinkers.
-making members interested in eSports aware of the established space of the Women and NB teams.
