Hello, I’m Owen Frost a first year LSTV member and Film, Photography and Media student. Most people will probably recognise me for my great NASTA loss (still fuming (joking)). I LOVE film and would love to be one of your Co-Heads of Filmmaking. I believe I would be a great addition to committee as I like to think I am approachable, confident, nice and creative. I have extensive experience in the film production process because I have made and contributed to many short films, having knowledge in every aspect of production. I want to build upon the encouraging and creatively explorative community which has been created within LSTV. I really hope you consider me for the role of Co-Head of Filmmaking. Thank youuu.

Hello everyone reading this statement. Before I begin, I’d like to acknowledge that some of you may not recognise me. Since joining in semester two, I’ve been heavily involved in the filmmaking cohort, and I hope to continue meeting and working with even more members of this society next year.

Since joining in semester two, I have been an active member in the filmmaking cohort. By the end of the year I will have assistant directed three filmmaking projects, working closely with Ella, the current head of filmmaking. These projects are ‘No Politics At The Dinner Table’, ‘Laughing Stock’ and ‘Passage Of The Mule’ which I am also helping produce. Furthermore, I have also assistant directed/worked on short films external to LSTV, working with creatives from Beckett, MET film and NFTS. I would like to implement this expansive creative network to the society in order to aid the making of the society's projects by providing excellent cast and crew members who I have worked with.

Besides assistant directing, I am also proficient at editing on all commonly used software such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Lightroom and more. I want to use these skills to train current and new members through shadowing and one-to-one sessions to prevent a back log of film projects which in turn will streamline NASTA and external film festival submissions.

I am also familiar with what is required to work in a committee and effectively run a society, especially in a partnership. This past year I have been the Vice President of Men’s Basketball society working effectively alongside the President to manage the demands and needs of our 150 members. I am excited by the introduction of two co-heads of filmmaking and I am confident that through effective communication, compromise and passion alongside one of the other excellent candidates we can collectively elevate the filmmaking section of the society. Also, due to my experience with Men’s Basketball I want to aid the journalism and filmmaking coverage of Varsity and the Christie cup. In fact this year I was able to liaise with Ella in order to provide post-game interviews and enhance the general coverage of the amazing event.

I would like to use my position as co-head of filmmaking to focus on making the filmmaking aspect of the society as equally visible as the other elements of the society. This will therefore aid the society’s member retention. I would achieve this through foregrounding the filmmaking aspect of the society at the fresher’s fair, an environment I have been made familiar with through running the fresher’s fair for Men’s Basketball in the absence of the President last year. Also, I would like to reach out to aspiring filmmakers on my course, English and Film by giving talks before lectures and having a place in the courses’ newsletter to advertise what the society has to offer: the writer’s room, shadowing sessions and more. I would like to take this one step further into theatre to also recruit aspiring screen actors to enlarge our lovely acting cohort.

Equally as important as it is gaining members in the society, it is vital to also integrate these members.
I would aim to focus on what it is people would like to do in filmmaking such as writing, directing, cinematography and be able to ease them into that role. There are a few ways I would achieve this which are: creating a personal connections spreadsheet, which anyone can access, where I can willingly reach out to members and matchmake them with projects in need of their aspiring roles, allowing inexperienced members to shadow our experience members on set or in the editing suite and providing one-to-one skills sessions. Hopefully, this will allow the society to upscale and create more amazing projects which we can send to NASTA in hopes of a clean sweep.

I would like to end on one final message, which is that this is my absolute passion. This is what I want to do for work. Quite literally all of my eggs are in one basket and I am completely okay with that. I want to create an environment where people can gain genuine experience to expand their portfolio and go onto work on amazing industry projects all by using this society as a stepping stone in their career. I believe I am experienced, passionate and willing to learn and therefore you should vote for me.

Hi! My name is Sophie Hope and I am running to be a co-head of filmmaking at LSTV next year! I believe I am a perfect candidate for the role as someone who is confident, devoted and motivated. Working closely with Ella Mae Forbes, Head of Filmmaking 25/26, she has taught me many aspects of what it takes to be a great leader and amazing female director. I wish to take a 'producer' role approach to filmmaking as that is what I want to pursue as a career in the future. I have worked on every filmmaking project that has happened this school year and developed my skills on each set as well as developing projects outside of LSTV. Within LSTV, I have worked on every different area of the society from sport, commercial, music, light entertainment, lives etc. This shows how I understand that collaboration is the most important and key thing within a society that has many different areas. I am a first year English and film student whose course is all theory and so I use my time in LSTV to gain practical experience. I have been majorly involved within the society and have got involved in every social event including NASTAs. If I were to get this role, I would implement new ideas into filmmaking to make it even more successful than it has been this year. For example, an idea in which I have already introduced and am actively pursuing is creating a designated BTS photography/videography role within crew for our films in order to gain BTS footage and interviews for videos for our LSTV YouTube to showcase to students our talented team and fun environment. By adding set interviews, I will have connected the journalism side of LSTV to the filmmaking side which connects the society more and develops good relationships with the entire team. I also have already been networking with individuals from Leeds Beckett and Met Film School to connect filmmakers across Leeds and expand projects to increase creative depth. Due to me joining the society on my own in October and gaining incredible friendships I understand how crucial it is to get people who join to feel included and most importantly: have fun. Ultimately, I have worked incredibly hard throughout this year to be able to be your head of filmmaking and have performed to the best of my ability in order to show everybody that.
