Hey guys!! I'm Lucy, a 4th year medic who is intercalating next year. I've been on MSRC for a whole 3 years now, making me one of the longest running active committee members. Through this time, I have worked as MUMS rep, Y3 rep and Y4 rep and in these roles, have been very actively involved in meetings with the medical school about all things student life.

Over my (many) years on MSRC, I have been able to branch out into different roles, most of which involving EDI. During my role as MUMS rep, I was involved in several discussions with the medical school about inclusivity within MUMS. This stretched further while I was the Y3 rep, where I successfully campaigned with the medical school to give the Y3 students an extra set of scrubs and extra travel contribution money over the year. As Y4 rep, I have been involved in discussions about the University's own EDI policies. On top of my Y4 rep role this year, I have also been the assessment representative for Y4, helping to change exam dates to accommodate religious festivals as well as changing school-wide policies on placement absence requests.

So, why do I want to be VP, and why should you vote for me?

This year especially, I have worked very closely with the current executive committee and been able to have an understanding for how much they work and how much care they put into it. My time on MSRC and the feedback I have gotten from students in my year rep roles has given me such a great appreciation for how needed a committee such as MSRC is within the medical school. As I am intercalating next year, I will have more time than ever before to dedicate towards the role of Vice President, leaving me more flexible to attend meetings that usually only occur in placement time. I am also dedicated to improving the student experience (as shown above) and know that this year is the year I can give MSRC and the VP role the attention it deserves.

One initiative I want to restart as VP is Helping Hands - a previous scheme run by MSRC that focussed on student wellbeing. I want to run a week of events (think puppy yoga, crafting, friendly sports games, a ceilidh) aimed towards lifting student spirits. This would further give an extra opportunity for welfare and sports and societies reps to get involved in more activities within MSRC, and hopefully this initiative would be able to continue in future years.

I also want to create a document available for students with the help of the societies under MSRC, explaining fully the different training pathways for medicine and the importance of research, posters, conferences, teaching and leadership in future careers, as a lot of students have little to no accessibility to this information unless they come from families of doctors.

As Vice President, I will bring a track record of dedication and excellence to the MSRC. Having been recognized as the Best New Representative of the term as the International Representative this past year demonstrates my commitment to not only fulfilling my duties but excelling in them. This recognition highlights my passion for serving the medical student community and my dedication to doing my job well.

I am eager to leverage my experience and skills to contribute more fully to the successful running of this committee and make a bigger impact on our medical school community. My tenure as the International Representative has provided me with unique insights into the circle of influence of the MSRC and has inspired me to take on a larger role in shaping its mission and goals.

Moreover, I bring a fresh perspective as an international student, which adds depth to discussions on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). I am passionate about fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every student feels heard and valued.

In the role of Vice President, I will be prepared to handle the unpredictable workload and address emergencies swiftly and effectively. With my strong work ethic, collaborative skills, and readiness to tackle any challenge, I am confident in my ability to serve as a reliable and accessible resource for the MSRC and our medical student community.

But why should you pick ME? But why should you pick ME? Aside from my incredible work ethic, I pride myself on being creative. drawing from my passion for innovation and originality, I came up with an idea to implement an “MSRC Rage Room Experience” a committee bonding activity. It will provide an opportunity for committee members to release stress, build camaraderie, and have fun in a rageful yet safe environment. Committee members can unleash their frustrations about medical school, MSRC, exes, what have you by smashing objects to your hearts content. It will serve as a cathartic outlet for members to let off steam and bond over shared experiences. By participating in the 'MSRC Rage Room Experience' together, we can strengthen our connections and create a more cohesive and supportive committee culture a cause I am dedicated to. I am eager to channel this creativity into action, introducing more novel and groundbreaking initiatives like this one into every aspect of MSRC that will propel our committee and the medical school to unparalleled success.
