As Charity Coordinator I will actively work with other charities to help grow our society and all that can do to help our community. In this way I will create strong partnerships that will allow us to do more to help and mean more volunteering opportunities for the society to make part in. This all works to raise the necessary awareness for the issue of homelessness and I know that I will be communicative and engage with a variety of charities so our society can do everything we can to help.

Hi, my name is Ellie! I am a first year student studying International Development. I want to be your next Charity Coordinator as I have a genuine desire to better the community of Leeds that we all love so much. I believe that as a society dedicated to bringing awareness to poverty and homelessness, not just in Leeds but nationwide, there are many intersectional areas that we could be exploring as a society. If I was to be elected as the next Charity Coordinator I would hope to reach out to charities working on homelessness affecting refugees and asylum seekers once they reach the UK as this is a major issue presented in current media. On top of this, I would like to see more collborations with societies which aren't necessarily dedicated to social movements or volunteering, such as subject specific or sports societies. This is because I believe giving back in the form of raising awareness or volunteering should be a more widespread movement. Finally, I would think of myself as approachable and kind and would welcome any input from memebers of the society as I would like the collaborations and charity connections to reflect the values and interests of our members.

Hey I’m Nina and would love to represent Homed as Charity Coordinator. I believe that everyone should have the right to a safe home no matter the circumstances and that having a secure home is the backbone to enabling people to live fulfilled lives. I often research into the problems surrounding homelessness and the many different forms homelessness can take including the recent rise in sofa surfing amid the cost of living crisis. Therefore I would enjoy this element of the role and being able to advise the society how to respond to the most pressing needs facing homelessness at that time as well as taking on feedback from other members .
I am aware that there are other societies which have similar aims to ours and I would like to facilitate collaboration to allow resources and skills to be shared so that we can have the biggest possible impact in Leeds. Likewise, I would like to reach out to external charities to find ways that we can all support and compliment each other’s work as well as help spread awareness together. One idea I had was to reach out to campaigns about renters rights as this ties in very closely with our work. These external charities will also have valuable information they could share with us to ensure our work is as effective as possible and we can target areas where we are needed most. I have experience working for a charity supporting children with SEND needs and so I am aware as to how to go about communicating with other providers who do similar things to ours as well how to organise campaigns . My role also includes communicating with parents from a wide range of backgrounds and through this I have understood the pressures that having a disabled child brings including maintaining a steady and safe home

Furthermore, as students one of the ways we can help is by giving our time so I would like to organise volunteering opportunities within the local community for our society to get involved with. These would include spreading awareness on the many different types and causes of homelessness to the wider student body as well as continuing the opportunities we already have in place. I would like to take up this role to play an active part in the Leeds community as well as to give fellow students the opportunity to have a positive impact. I hope to be able to facilitate collaboration through this position and believe that through this we can do the best we can to tackle homelessness in Leeds.
