The Captain of the University of Leeds Rifle Society is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the society’s activities, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all members. This role requires a strong commitment to the development and promotion of rifle shooting as a sport within the university community.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Provide strong leadership and direction to the Rifle Society, fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere.
  • Organize and lead regular meetings, practices, and events.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to grow the society and enhance member engagement.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant safety regulations and university policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of firearms regulations and ensure the society adheres to them.
  • Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for new and existing members.

Coaching and Development:

  • Provide coaching and support to members of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced shooters.
  • Organize training sessions, workshops, and competitive events to improve members’ skills.
  • Encourage participation in inter-university competitions and coordinate the society’s involvement.

Administration and Communication:

  • Manage the society’s budget, including fundraising and expenditure.
  • Maintain accurate records of membership, attendance, and equipment.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the society, liaising with university authorities, sponsors, and external organizations.

Promotion and Outreach:

  • Promote the Rifle Society within the university to attract new members.
  • Develop and maintain a strong online presence through social media and the society’s website.
  • Organize and participate in outreach activities to raise awareness of the sport and the society.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience in rifle shooting, with a strong understanding of safety protocols and best practices.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven leadership and organizational abilities, with experience in managing teams or groups.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate members.
  • Commitment: A dedicated and proactive approach, with the willingness to commit time and effort to the role.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in rifle shooting and safety training are desirable but not mandatory.
