Hello, I’m Safia. To those who attend the weekly sessions regularly, you may recognise me as this year’s LeedsMUN Secretary. Working as Secretary for this year’s iteration of the Leeds Model United Nations Society has been an amazing experience, and, it’s been an honour to serve and ensure all have an amazing experience.

I am once more running for the position of Secretary for this esteemed society for the coming academic year. My strategy as Secretary for the coming year is focused on a two-pronged approach. Continuity and change. I will continue to perform old duties and practices to ensure this society runs well, and I will change and adapt some features of the society to improve member experiences in the coming year.

As Secretary for next year, I will continue to maintain the high standards and exceptional running of the weekly MUN sessions, ensuring they are just as accessible and well-planned as always, focused on preparing all delegates for conferences and more. I will continue to manage communications for this society, ensuring all members of this society are kept up-to-date on all upcoming weekly sessions, special events, socials, and conferences such as MANMUN, LeedsMUN, LIMUN, and more. And, I will continue to work hard as Secretary to assist and maintain in the smooth running of this society.

Now, change. To add further to the weekly sessions, I will introduce more specialised MUN sessions focused on specific committees such as UNSC, COP, ICJ, and more, as well as more MUN training sessions for specific aspects of MUN, such as draft resolutions, speech, and more. I will also advocate for more opportunities for members to take part in and attend more MUN conferences across the UK and beyond, as well as an increase in fun socials, and, opportunities to collaborate and partner with other societies for fun events and increased opportunities and members. And finally, I will introduce more forms of communication for society members, ensuring important information is disseminated quickly and efficiently, and diversified in such a way that it is accessible for all.

These are my intentions as Secretary for next year, and, as potential Secretary for next year, I hope and intend to achieve all this and more. Thank you for reviewing my candidate statement.
