As a passionate advocate for Pakistani culture, I’d love to lead the Pakistani society as president.
When I came to Leeds, I experienced a massive culture shock as I realised we are a minority here, and it showed me how important representation is. That’s why I want to make sure that every Pakistani student feels included, welcomed and has the opportunity to continue celebrating their culture upon entering university by attending the events we host. In sixth form, I was an active member of the student union-this was a role not only that taught me how to lead whilst representing the voices of my peers but also gave me some of the best memories of my school years and was where I made so many friends. I want to recreate that same sense of community here at Leeds for Pakistani students.
Since then, I’ve developed a love for working in events-bringing people together and seeing everyone have fun is something so special and that’s the kind of energy I want to bring into our society. One thing I’m especially passionate about is Punjabi/Pakistani music and it’s something I’d love to incorporate more into our events-whether thats vibing to Sukha at desi nights, taking it back to legends like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan or even through chilled (non alcoholic) sip and paints sessions.
