Hey! I’m Nina and I’m a 3rd year English Literature student currently on my study abroad year in Amsterdam and ready to get stuck back into my final year at Leeds.

Why me:
I was on the committee in my 2nd year as the Equality and Diversity Secretary, so I have first-hand experience working with the committee. I ran the weekly Eng Soc Tea which involved planning and organising the weekly tea, liaising with staff to secure timing and locations and to spread the word. I also had to submit my receipts for processing and organise reimbursement weekly during this time, so I became familiar with the processes of the treasurer role. I also played an integral role in the organisation of the food and drinks at the end of year English Ball: I made careful preparations for all dietary requirements and food allergies, alerting the staff and arranging specific provisions in order to ensure that that the ball was fun (and safe) for everyone. I absolutely loved my time on committee and am keen to get involved again.

I was a student intern with the University last summer where I helped plan, organise, and deliver training for the AHC Peer Mentoring Program. This means I have experience in organisation and admin, and I am confident in my ability to efficiently liaise with both staff and students.

Generally, I’m incredibly organised and can’t get through a week without a detailed to-do list, so I feel very up to the task of treasurer – I’m committed to being transparent, organised, and efficient with the society’s finances.

Aims:
I will ensure that there is a democratic process for deciding on the uses of the society’s funds, making sure that our expenses our transparent.

I will make sure that the membership prices are kept low so that being a member of Eng Soc accessible to all.

I will create and incentivise opportunities for society fundraisers – I want to increase the social budget and funnel that into a variety of opportunities for Eng Soc members to get involved with, creating more opportunities for members to meet each other.

I will work closely with the committee to ensure that the society’s funds are put towards events and opportunities that will suit all its members.
