Hi! I’m Feli and I’d love to be your SASHA Welfare Officer.

I love SASHA’s inclusivity and how the society strives to create a safe space for anyone. I am passionate about raising awareness surrounding sexual violence and providing a space for people to express themselves creatively and comfortably!

I was amazed by all the work SASHA does to support victims/survivors of sexual violence. I want to be help develop and contribute towards amazing events such as Tender Flames to the weekly ‘Sip and Socials’. In turn I will strive to always expand my knowledge surrounding consent, and provide a comfortable environment for anyone who needs it.

Taking part in a multitude of ‘Sip and Socials’ has let me engage with creative activities I wouldn’t have done by myself and helped me meet wonderful people in the process! I’d love to bring in some new activities, such as crochet, jewellery making and black-out poetry. Additionally I’d like to engage more with the wider members of SASHA to see if there are any activities that are of high demand, to ensure that we cater to our members.

At my job outside of University, I already help provide awareness surrounding mental health support for young people (6-18) within Leeds and have completed standard safeguarding and consent training. I’m eager to liaise further with charities and mental health services within Leeds, and help cultivate a community of support for victims/survivors of sexual violence.

I would love to dedicate my time to help SASHA support any and all survivors, creating a safe space across University and wider!

Hello!

My name is Merna Kassab, and I am eager to serve as your next Welfare Officer. As a dedicated advocate for student rights and well-being, I am committed to creating a supportive and safe environment for all our members.

Throughout my time at university, I have been actively involved in various initiatives that promote student welfare and support survivors of sexual harassment and assault. I have organised workshops, collaborated on awareness campaigns, and worked closely with local organisations to bring resources and support to those in need.

In my role as Welfare Officer, my main focus will be to ensure that every member of our society feels heard, supported, and empowered. I plan to implement a comprehensive support system that includes:

Regular Workshops and Seminars: Education is key in prevention. By organising regular events, we can provide our members with the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves and support their peers.

Peer Support Groups: I will establish a peer support group where survivors can share their experiences and healing journeys in a safe and confidential environment.

Collaboration with Local Services: Strengthening our ties with local counselling and legal services to ensure that members have access to professional help whenever they need it.

Open Communication Channels: I will work to maintain open lines of communication, where members can express their concerns and suggestions for improving our society.

Inclusive Policies: Ensuring that our policies are inclusive and sensitive to the needs of all members, regardless of their background or experiences.
