The President of Russian and Slavonic Society plays a key leadership role in fostering cultural engagement, unity, and inclusivity among students interested in Slavic heritage and traditions. They are responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of events such as trips and social gatherings. The President also acts as the primary representative of the society, liaising with university bodies, other student societies, and external cultural organisations. In addition, they support the committee in achieving its goals, ensure the society’s values are upheld, and help create a welcoming environment for all members, regardless of background or experience.

Dear SlavSoc brothers brothers,
I’m happy to finally announce that I have nominated myself for two positions in the upcoming election - President and Social Secretary.
This year was quite tough for our society, we have faced demographic, economic and political crisises.
IT’S TIME TO TAKE EVERYTHING BACK.
My name is Ekaterina Rozhdestvenskaia and I will make SlavSoc great again!
My candidate programme was thoroughly composed and all the issues must be resolved:
1. I promise you, dear SlavSoc members, times better promotion of our meticulously planned events and greater, faster and smoother communication with you!
2. I have prepared a prospective events plan that is far away form simple bar socials, let alone trips to Sheffield. I’m ready to share it with you and wait for your votes!
3. Choosing me means choosing much more friendly, respectful and mindful approach towards your requests. I know what you want from SlavSoc. I will adhere to your expectations. I AM A CANDIDATE FROM THE PEOPLE.

What is the role of a community president?
It’s not a boss, and it’s not a superhero. It’s the one who’s always there.
The one who organizes meetups, finds the right words when no one else has any, and shows up first even when no one else does. They’re not above — they’re simply the one who cares. The one who holds the atmosphere together, even when it seems like everything’s just happening on its own.

🔍📢 On the Future and Planned Changes
🪞📬 Complete Transparency from the Committee
As I’ve already said — taking on a leadership role doesn’t mean becoming someone different. I believe every community member deserves to know what’s being changed, what’s being planned, and what the committee is doing to help SlavSoc grow. There should always be a direct, open, and constant connection between the members and the committee — a bond that should never break. Everything we do is done for the community and with the community.
🤝🏙️ Partnerships with Venues and Local Businesses
As much as I love Be At One, it’s time to expand. If we want our community to grow, we need to step outside the usual routine and start actively collaborating with other venues. Just look at Manchester — they’re throwing events with their own DJs in bars they partner with. I want that for Leeds too. We must pursue partnerships with bars, companies, and event spaces — it opens doors to new event formats, exclusive discounts, and maybe even some freebies All of this is aimed at making our social life more vibrant and enjoyable for everyone.
🌍🤝 Collaboration with Other University Societies
Right now, we’re one of the biggest and most multicultural societies in the entire university. We’ve got members from over 15 countries, speaking different languages, carrying different stories and cultures — yet united by shared values. I think it would be amazing if we started collaborating more with other societies — co-hosting events, sharing experiences, learning about each other. This would not only broaden our perspectives, but bring us even closer together — because across all cultures, there’s always something in common, if you’re willing to talk.
🚆🌆 Connection with Communities in Other Cities
Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “Oh no, not Sheffield again…” — but hear me out! Sure, many of us will still visit our friends there — and that’s great. But we need to take our intercity connections to a whole new level. I want us to explore new spaces, invite even more people from other cities who share the same cultural background, and revive the idea of cultural trips like we’ve done before. Not just because they’re fun — but because they remind us of something bigger: That our community doesn’t end at the borders of Leeds. It’s about building unity that reaches far beyond our campus.
📣💬 Improving Communication and Feedback
While this overlaps slightly with what I mentioned earlier about committee transparency, I strongly believe that communication with the community deserves even more attention. We need to clearly and in advance communicate event plans, give everyone a chance to share ideas, provide feedback, and reflect on past events. Only through this kind of open dialogue can we truly understand what matters to our members and how we can improve every interaction. Because the closer and more in sync we are with each other — the stronger our community becomes.
We have an incredible amount of people and everyone is important
🧠🌱 Personal Growth Within the Community
We’re in an incredibly rich environment — studying at a university with over 30,000 students and hundreds of interest-based societies. We should take full advantage of that by organizing collaborations across societies, hosting cultural evenings, and encouraging personal development in all directions. Our members come from all kinds of academic backgrounds — and I’m sure many would love the chance to learn something new, broaden their horizons, or be inspired by things they never considered before. SlavSoc doesn’t just have to be a place to unwind — it can be a place to grow.
🎭🌍 Cultural Enrichment
Maslenitsa was amazing, wasn’t it? That event showed just how much potential we have to infuse our meetups with cultural elements — not just from Slavic traditions, but beyond. I’d love for us to keep going in that direction: hosting events where we both share our culture and invite others to share theirs. Music, movies, books — they all bring us together. Personally, I’d love to organize movie nights where we hang out, watch a film, discuss it, and just soak in the vibe. These are the kinds of moments that bring people truly closer.
🪆🌐 Strengthening Slavic Identity in a Multicultural Space
We live in a multicultural environment — and that’s a huge strength. SlavSoc should always be an open space, where anyone can come and learn more about our culture. People from other countries and backgrounds might join us out of curiosity — and stay because they feel the warmth and connection. We’re not a community based on passports — we’re a community based on spirit. And that’s something truly worth preserving.
👥❤️ Internal Unity
And finally — something important. Yes, we’ve had disagreements. But now is the time to become a real family for one another. To build a space where everyone feels at home, where no one feels like an outsider. As a committee member, I want to support anyone who has an idea for an event — whether it’s a workshop, a poetry night, or anything else. I want to help bring those ideas to life, to make sure people come and feel like their contribution matters.

Как и было сказано мною раньше - занятие позиции в плане лидера не означает то, что ты становишься кем-то другим. Я считаю, что каждый участник сообщества должен быть в курсе того, какие изменения внедряются, какие события планируются и что делает комитет для развития SlavSoc-а. Между участниками сообщества и руководством должна быть налаженная, живая и постоянная связь, которая ни в коем случае не должна прерываться. Всё, что делается - делается для сообщества и вместе с ним.
🤝🏙️ Партнёрство с различными заведениями и компаниями
Как бы сильно я не любил Be At One, но в рамках развития сообщества нам нужно выходить за рамки привычного и активно работать над взаимодействием с другими заведениями. Смотря на пример Манчестера, где они могут устроить вечеринку в баре с собственной музыкой, мне тоже хочется, чтобы мы в Лидсе могли позволить себе нечто подобное. Нам крайне важно стремиться к созданию партнёрств с компаниями, барами и площадками - это не только открывает новые форматы мероприятий, но и даёт возможность получить скидочки, а может, и что-то бесплатное :)
Всё это — для того, чтобы наш досуг стал ещё разнообразнее и приятнее для всех.
🌍🤝 Взаимодействие с сообществами внутри университета
На данный момент мы являемся одним из самых больших и мультикультурных сообществ во всём университете. У нас есть участники из более чем 15 стран, говорящих на разных языках, со своими историями и культурным бэкграундом, но при этом объединённых общими ценностями. И мне кажется, было бы невероятно интересно, если бы мы смогли чаще взаимодействовать с другими сообществами - проводить совместные мероприятия, обмениваться опытом, узнавать друг друга. Это не только расширит наш кругозор, но и сделает нас ближе - ведь даже в разных культурах можно найти много общего, если просто начать разговор.
🚆🌆 Взаимодействие с сообществами других городов
Многие на этом моменте подумают: "Ох, опять в Шеффилд", но НЕТ. Конечно, часть из нас всё равно будет навещать ребят оттуда - ведь они стали нам близки, и это здорово. Но нам нужно развивать взаимодействие с другими городами на совершенно новом уровне. Я хочу, чтобы мы начали искать и использовать новые площадки, где можно собираться, и приглашать всё больше людей из других городов, которые так же связаны со славянской культурой. Вдобавок к этому - проводить культурные поездки, как мы уже делали раньше, ведь это не только весело, но и помогает почувствовать единство на большом уровне, не ограничиваясь только Лидсом.
📣💬 Улучшение коммуникации и обратной связи
Хоть это частично перекликается с тем, что я уже упоминал в пункте про прозрачность комитета, всё же я считаю, что общению с сообществом нужно уделять ещё больше внимания. Мы должны заранее и чётко сообщать об организации мероприятий, давать людям возможность высказаться, предлагать идеи и делиться мнением о прошедших ивентах. Только через такой открытый диалог мы сможем понимать, что действительно важно участникам и как улучшать каждое наше взаимодействие. Ведь чем ближе и понятнее мы будем друг другу - тем крепче станет наше сообщество.
Нас невероятно много, и каждый человек важен.

Сейчас у нас есть просто колоссальные возможности - учёба в университете, где более тридцати тысяч студентов и сотни сообществ по интересам. Мы должны использовать это в полной мере, создавая коллаборации между различными обществами, устраивая культурные вечера и развивая себя в разных направлениях. У нас есть участники, которые учатся в самых разных сферах - и я уверен, что каждому было бы интересно узнать что-то новое, расширить кругозор, вдохновиться чем-то, что раньше казалось далёким. SlavSoc может быть не только местом отдыха, но и местом личного роста.
🎭🌍 Культурное наполнение
Масленица была прекрасной, не так ли? Этот ивент показал, что мы действительно можем наполнять наши встречи культурными элементами, присущими нашей славянской традиции - и не только! Мне бы хотелось, чтобы мы продолжили в этом направлении: организовывали мероприятия, где не только делимся своей культурой, но и приглашаем других, чтобы узнавать об их традициях и обмениваться опытом. А ещё - не забываем про такие важные аспекты, как музыка, фильмы и книги. Лично я был бы очень рад устроить movie night, где мы все просто собираемся, смотрим фильм, обсуждаем - и просто кайфуем от атмосферы. Такие вещи сближают по-настоящему.

Мы живём в мультикультурной среде, и это огромный плюс. SlavSoc должен оставаться открытым пространством, где каждый может узнать больше о нашей культуре. Люди из других стран и бэкграундов могут сначала просто прийти на ивент, а потом - остаться с нами надолго, потому что почувствуют ту же теплоту и включённость. Мы не сообщество "по паспорту", мы сообщество по духу - и это очень важно сохранить.
👥❤️ Сплочённость внутри
И под конец - о важном. Да, у нас бывали разногласия. Но именно сейчас нам нужно стать настоящей семьёй друг для друга. Создать пространство, где каждый чувствует себя комфортно, где нет чужих. Со стороны комитета я хочу поддерживать каждого, у кого есть идея для собственного ивента - будь то мастер-класс, поэтический вечер или что угодно ещё. Я хочу помогать этим идеям воплощаться в жизнь, и делать так, чтобы на каждом таком мероприятии было много людей, и чтобы все чувствовали: их вклад важен.
