This past year, I have seen how this society brings together such an amazing and unique group of people – all united by our shared love of good wine. To me, “good” does not just have to mean expensive. I am passionate about finding little-known grape varieties that go beyond your everyday sauvignon blanc, although I do love the M&S Little Joey; my current favourite is the Gelber Muskateller for £9 in Waitrose’s Loved and Found range. I really do believe the options are endless for this society. First and foremost, our socials should be about socialising; think dinner parties with wine pairings, discovering underground wine bars, elegant formals, and, of course, the odd club night. It can also be a place for learning. I am taking the WSET this year and would love to learn more together by sharing tasting tips, bottle recommendations, and meeting wine educators. At the top of my list for next year would be organising a vineyard trip (hopefully the first of many), having been inspired by my recent tour of a family-run estate winery in Sicily. I have experience working in marketing and social media, which I will utilise to grow our society’s presence and ensure all of our events are the most sought-after on campus. I am a very proactive person and would be so excited to bring this energy to the committee. I am committed to my own wine education and will be just as committed to making this next year one to remember – full of fun events where there is truly something for everyone. No thick rims allowed!
