Hi everyone, I’m going to be running for treasurer this year and I think that I will be a good fit for this position. Over the last year I have been an active member of the society and touch has been a big part of my life at university, so I’d love to have a key role on the committee to see the club grow even more than it has during my time with it. I’m going into my 4th year as a Physics student so I have the numerical skills and can pay the bills. I also know my way around a spreadsheet, so the society will be in good hands in terms of money and budgets. I have been good friends with this year’s committee members, living with two of them next year, and have seen the work required of the position and feel that I can fulfil these duties, as well as being surrounded by people who have been a part of the club for a long time. I would really like to be part of the committee this year to better the society by making sure that we can attend more events within our budget especially since we will be in BUCS next year. Hi everyone, I thought I would take this opportunity to write a bit about myself and why I want to be Treasurer next year because quite a few of you won't know me.

For those who don't, I'm a languages student in second year, currently away studying in Morocco, but throughout my first year I was involved with the society. The training sessions were genuinely the highlight of my week and even when those stopped during the covid lockdowns, it was the friends I met there that made that year such a great time. They're also why I've made the trip up to Leeds on a couple of occasions while I've been away.

I've watched the club grow massively over the course of 9 months or so and I would love to help it continue to go from strength to strength. And ensure it remains a space where people can enjoy themselves and form those connections that are one of the best parts of university. In the same vein, I think it would be great to expand the society's connections to other local teams and with societies within the university. Particularly with big events like the Womens' and 7s Rugby World Cups coming up in September, it would be great to use interest around them to bring in more players, or even to give people a chance to mix with other students they might not necessarily meet.

I chose to apply for the Treasurer role over any of the others because I think it suits my skill set. I can manage finances well, skills I have developed both at university and this year in a new country. I'm confident I can liase with the union and ensure the club runs smoothly. We all have plenty of experience of working to a deadline and I understand the importance of time management to get as many events, and games as possible and to make next year a really great one.
I would also hope that I am open and easy to talk to, so for anyone having any issues both with regards to the society, uni or more generally, I am always around for a chat and will help in any way I can.

Regardless, of whether I get a place on the committee or not, I am super excited to return to the club in September and get back to playing. It really is a fantastic group of people, enjoying a fantastic sport.
