Hi! I'm interested in being a PALS Co-Lead because I enjoy teaching and helping others learn. Over the last 2 years, I have been the training lead for the St John Society, teaching lots of people first aid and planning the curriculum for sessions. I would love to put these skills into a different format as a PALS lead. I think PALS is really important because it helps build people's confidence and prepares them for exams. With my skills in teaching and organisation, I hope to be a great asset to the team.

Hi everyone, my name is Love, I am an upcoming 3rd year medical student. This year I am applying for the Position of PALS 2 Co-lead because I am adamant that I can make the transition to year 2 less daunting, by simplifying the content further and implementing new strategies into the teaching that PALS provides. As someone who came through the Gateway Course and has had a smooth sailing progression through the course, with a good academic record, I am confident that I can help articulate the relevant content to suit everyone’s needs. To help improve the retention and understanding of content, I aim to make use of all learning styles and techniques; I believe this is the first step to making learning easy. As someone who has had to adapt their learning style continuously, I am positive that I, alongside my peers, can provide students with thorough guidance and understanding of how they can best learn. For example, I will introduce the Feynman technique to make sure students thoroughly understand a subject, so that they are not simply relying on fallible memory and can accurately reason towards the correct answer. This method of learning helps me a lot, and I can still recall lessons from year 1, so I believe it will be highly beneficial to teach to others.

Additionally, I have developed the ability to deconstruct difficult topics and make them more digestible e.g. through hand drawn illustrations, use of acronyms, story telling and active recall – skills which have gotten me through the challenging content in both Clinical pathology and Control & Movement, all of which I hope to implement further. Furthermore, I have a strong passion for helping others and sharing my knowledge, a quality which I have honed in my time tutoring in Secondary school and Sixth form. With my experience of teaching and understanding of the course, I believe I am best suited for this position.

Hi! My name is Mark, and I would love to be a PALS 2 co lead for next year.

PALS has been a great resource for me and many other people. From life-saving revision sessions to the warm guidance provided by the co-leads, plenty of students have experienced its benefits. I would be so glad to have the opportunity to provide that same value myself.

I love teaching, and I can definitely see myself hosting and leading PALS sessions. I feel I have the necessary amount of experience required for this role. Being the sales director for an enterprise business strengthened my teamwork and communication skills. I was also a house captain in high school, which sharpened my interpersonal skills. I also learned to be receptive and approachable, and I would warmly welcome any query from the lower years. Additionally, I am a youth leader at my church, where work with younger kids on a weekly basis.

Moreover, I am quite charismatic, and I can engage an audience well. I will definitely bring these traits to the teaching sessions. (I can even make haematology interesting!)

Overall, I feel I have lots of value to give to the year below, and PALS is the perfect platform to do so!

The triad of PALS, ‘learning, teaching and leading’, is something that I have been able to participate in as a medic, with PALS being an invaluable and key part of my learning and revision. Admirably, other medics who have come before me have given up their time to teach and create resources, providing a support system whilst understanding and experiencing the journey themselves
Now, I am keen to give back to PALS for their continuous support, by embarking on the ‘teaching and leading’ aspect of the triad as a Year 2 Co-Lead. My skills in teaching and generally supporting others have been developed through my role as a GCSE and A-Level tutor for MyTutor, which is something I genuinely enjoy. I have experience in planning lessons, creating an interactive lesson space for students tailoring to their needs, and always looking to improve with feedback. I believe natural friendly and supportive nature will fit right in with PALS values and ethics. This comes hand in hand with my enjoyment of working in a team, always willing to contribute my own ideas as well as creating an open environment for others to share their own. Lastly, I am an advocate for creativity and visual displays in revision, so would be keen to create revision resources for students on challenging concepts if I were to be a Co-Lead.
I hope to be able to utilise my skills and creativity through teaching for PALS, joining a team of likeminded, hardworking medics.

Hello everyone, my name is Shuya Sheng. Today I’m running for the role of PALS2 co-lead for which I believe my abilities and passion make me an ideal candidate for.

To begin with, academically I achieved A* in last year’s summative result, with A in each subsection. And I’m confident about this year’s result as well. I believe this can reflect multiple things, such as my knowledge base, time management, commitment to my assigned tasks, and the quality of my work. This knowledge base can help me to provide useful study tips to junior students, highlight the most examinable lecture contents, and ensure the correctness and clarity of revision sessions.

Additionally, I’m also keen about teaching and I have led two PALS1 revision sessions this year. I have received quite positive feedback from the students for my teaching quality and the interactiveness. So I believe this will help me design the revision sessions in a way that’s relevant, interactive, and helpful to the students.

Also, my previous experiences as Year1 rep of the badminton club and secretary of Healthcare Student in Climate Action helped me to develop various teamwork skills. Briefly, I’m easy to work with, dedicated to my task, punctual with time, responsive with messages, and willing to hear different opinions.

Having benefited from the excellent revision sessions led by my senior students and also taken part in teaching myself this year, I’m very passionate about this job and ready to commit my time to help the junior students.
