Musical Director (s)

Music Director

The role of MD works on arranging music for the group and leads rehearsals. They work on arrangements and plans for each rehearsal. They can arrange the songs, enlist previous members to write, or ask members of the current group. There are other jobs including leading the GIAGs and concerts.

Arrangement:

- Starting in the summer helps to have material ready for the upcoming group.

- There are usually around 15 songs to learn every year. (ICCAs and potentially Edinburgh again?)

Auditions:

- Held over Fresher’s week and prepared the week before with the rest of the committee. 

- Lead the audition process with vocal exercises and tests.

Rehearsals:

- Lead warm-ups and work with group on blending.

- Making sure the whole group is learning the music and choreo on schedule for concerts and videos. 

- Making musical decisions for the group’s sound.

The MD works closely with the President and committee, having weekly meetings to discuss the groups and society for any upcoming events.

It is a very important role and takes up a lot extra of time during the week than just attending rehearsals. There is preparation needed and the time before and after rehearsal is time used to plan.
