The president acts as the head and overseer of the society. The main role of the president is to organise at large the actions of the society and delegate and communicate roles with the committee and members of the society. The president needs to be an effective communicator, competent delegator and at times make difficult executive decisions. It is preferable that the President has had experiencing managing/taking part on other committees in the past.

The president works closely with all committee members ensuring that tasks and responsibilities are being handled effectively. More Specifically:

Secretary: it is important to work well with the secretary in order to effectively organise room bookings, communication with the wider society and organisational tasks. The president will often have to delegate communication to the secretary and therefore a close working relationship is required.

Treasurer: will often make financial decisions with the treasurer and ensure that money has been paid out or in. In terms of finances, the president will often have to make calls on the financial running of the society with the treasurer, and agree on budgets for events/expenses.

MDs: The president will need constant communication with the MD's of both groups. This is vital in ensuring that the musical development of both groups is on track. It is useful for the president to give up more time in order to attend rehearsals of BOTH groups to ensure the growth and targets set for both groups are being attained.

Social Sec: Will work together to ensure that the pastoral needs of society members are being looked at and will discuss any disciplinary action needed. Will work closely for the annual weekend away and travelling away (i.e. /ICCAs).

The president will also take the lead when it comes to large society events – i.e Christmas showcase/summer showcase/competition videos. This requires the ability to put together smooth, professional events that require leadership, discipline and organisation.

To summarise, being president requires someone confident as the figurehead of the society who is able to oversee the general running of the society, at times make difficult decisions, and delegate effectively to ensure we have a happy, successful society
