Hi! My name is Lucy and I am applying to be your Y3 representative for 2022/23. I have been the MUMS coordinator for the last academic year, and through that role I have gained a depe understanding of how MSRC works, as well as getting experience with talking to staff in the medical school about the concerns and needs of the year group. I am very active on the social media chats, so will always make note of any concerns that anyone has and try to resolve them as best as possible, as well as helping support people in my year group with the daily lives of a medical student. I hope you consider me to be your Y3 rep!

Hello, my names Isabel and I’d love to be one of the third-year representatives! Having two years’ experience as a representative for a different university course prior to medicine here in Leeds, I know what the role entails. Having completed multiple presentations within my time as a student representative, I am confident speaking in a public setting and discussing any concerns or potential propositions with any member of the cohort and raising them in the MSRC meetings. Previously helping to portray issues to module leads and tutors I saw the benefit that year representatives can have to provide a more positive experience for the cohort. I enjoy working with others so being a team of three representatives we can work together to make improvements and solutions to problems within year three. I consider myself to be a friendly approachable person and hopefully any member of third year would find me easy to talk to as a student representative. I have had lots of experience with teamwork, I want to make third year inclusive for all students, and I am happy to take on any role within the student rep team to support the year as a whole. I hope I will make a great year rep by being able to keep in contact with the yr group and noting any concerns or needs in terms of the delivery of teachings or anything medical school related anyone has and doing my best to address them to the best of my ability through meeting with the medical school. Hi, I’m Keerth!

I’m standing because I enjoy contributing to medical education and problem-solving for my community. I’m confident that my experiences, skillset, and motivation uniquely enable me to make the most of this opportunity.

I was fortunate to be our cohort’s MSRC year rep for the last two years. In that time, I’ve used my position to provide feedback and realistic solutions for the administration. Most recently, I convinced the Assessment Team to provide us with subject-specific feedback for the formative exam.

Elsewhere, I provided the Placements Team with a detailed, pragmatic proposal about how to allow students to self-organize into placement groups over summer. Dr. Flinders positively received this, and I will continue trying to explore this avenue with them.

I also received permission from the School to organize an Anki competition via MSRC next year. Students could submit their decks to MSRC, and the winner’s cards would be edited and distributed en masse to the cohort below. I would fund the prize through the Student Ideas Fund for now. The benefit of this would be to provide students with a free, standardized, accurate, Leeds-specific learning resource.

I hope these examples demonstrate my communication skills, resourcefulness, and ability to identify what students actually need. It has been a privilege to represent you thus far, and I hope that privilege is extended.
