Hi lads,

As the end of my first year comes to an end, I have had the chance to look back and reflect on what has made my first year one of the best years of my life and have come to the conclusion that this society has. This is due to the cricket, socials and the great blokes the society has to offer.

This reflection has made me want to give back to the club by applying for the role of fixture sec. So why would I be good at this role? Everyone already knows I’m good at never shutting up, but why this?

I believe I am greatly suited for this role as I have a wealth of experience dealing with admin and helping to run fixtures. This has been seen since my school time, and up until recently, I have always taken a liking to the admin side, keeping everything running. For example, this year I have been trusted in organising teams, fixtures and dates for my club’s U19 side. This has allowed me to understand the hard work and dedication needed to help fixtures go ahead, and I believe I am well equipped to do this for the club as well.

Also, as a man who loves the sport, I have always wanted to play cricket at the highest standard possible, pushing myself to become better as a player. I want to be able to distil this onto the club by promoting the club to play a great deal of high-standard cricket, that being for the 1s and all the way down to the development squad, to ensure everyone is playing at a great standard and loving their cricket.

To make it short, with the great amount of experience I have in this area, and my dedication to wanting to better the club, I believe I would be great for this role to help display the power of this club and cement ourselves as one of the UK’s great cricketing Universities.

Does anyone know how to bowl straight?

Hi lads,
Firstly, I can’t wait to get going for what promises to be a truly unreal summer of cricket coming up. Having been part of the club for two years now, I would love for the opportunity to throw my hat in the ring for Fixture secretary next year. This club has given me some of my greatest memories at university and think it’s only fair that I start to think about giving back to the club.

Having been involved within performance squad for the past two years and playing a full season of BUCS cricket last year, I feel I have gained a good understanding of the cricket the club plays, and the efforts required to ensure these matches run smoothly. As well as this, my direct involvement within the indoor BUCS team and the training sessions we run throughout the winter allows me to understand the admin attached to this role, and the members both inside and outside the club I will be expected to work closely alongside.

One of the reasons this club is so good to be apart of is down to the competitive nature of the cricket we play. If I were to have the responsibility of Fixture Secretary, I would like to ensure this continues with all teams having the opportunity to play their highest standard of cricket. Whilst also ensuring we witness truly groundbreaking moments on the field like Jacob Bors first BUCS wicket. Having previously played for Lightcliffe in the Bradford league I was able to build strong connections with the committee there to ensure we can find grounds in the absence of Weetwood, Streethouse and Wakefield.

I’ll discuss future plans in more depth at the AGM, but to be brief these will include more playing members being involved in matches before the arrival of the BUCS season, as well as tour, which would benefit both playing and non-playing members of the club.

A man excited for summer

Hi lads,
Hope you are all as excited as I am now that the cricket season is in full swing. I’m looking forward to sharing the field with good blokes and questionable chat (Oscar Jack).

With my fresher year coming to an end, I think firstly it’s important to say how many great memories this club has given me. With that being said I think it’s important now that I put my name forward and give back to the club.

Becoming the fixture secretary next year would be a huge honour for me, and I would take great pride in being on the committee and ensuring we all play as much quality cricket as possible. This includes not only our indoor campaign and summer BUCS games, but also means working closely with the dev sec to make sure all of our teams get to play both enjoyable and competitive cricket.

A goal I would also like to work towards is organising a tour in which we go up against other strong university teams to make sure we are not only match fit, but ready to win BUCS when the season rolls around.

In terms of experience, I have had to help organise games and coordinate with ground staff before to ensure they go ahead at my home club, Southport & Birkdale. I understand how much effort and care has to be put into this role and I’m ready to give it 100%. By working closely with Weetwood and top local clubs, I would make it a priority to ensure our teams are playing the best cricket possible on some of the best grounds in Leeds.

More to come at the AGM on the 28th where I will go into slightly more depth about what goals I have for this role and how I plan to achieve them. Hope to see as many of you there.
