Hi fellas,

Hope you've all Eastered well. I, for one, can’t wait for the business end of what’s already been an unbelievable year for the club.

As we start thinking about next year, I’d like to throw my hat in the ring for Treasurer. I’ve got plenty to say on the night - but here’s a quick look at why I’m running.

The Treasurer role has always stood out to me. The chance to be one of the three lads leading this great club would be an honour, and something I’d take massive pride in. I’ve genuinely loved being on committee this year, and I’d love nothing more than to stay involved and take on a bigger role. In a desperate attempt to prove Social Media Sec isn’t a gag role, I’ve worked really hard this year - and I’m proud of what we’ve done so far, from setting up the club Canva to the first ever media day. There’s still more to come with the rest of the season and varsity, but I’m keen to step up into a role with more responsibility and impact.

With my background in Economics, working with numbers comes naturally. I’m confident I’ve got the skillset to manage the club’s finances clearly, responsibly, and in a way that helps the club keep pushing forward. One of my biggest strengths is admin and organisation - something I think is key for any exec member. Balancing two committees from two big societies this year has definitely been a challenge, but it’s also shown I can manage my time and responsibilities under pressure - exactly what’s needed in a Treasurer.

If elected, I’d like to take a closer look at membership structures and how squad funds are distributed. Bepey has done excellent job making wholesale changes after the financial implications of introducing a 4th XI and intermediate squad. But I think there’s still room for improvement there, and I’m keen to keep pushing things in the right direction.

After looking through the budget extensively, I feel we can really boost our income through more sponsorship revenue. With a higher social media presence than previous years, I think there is a really good opportunity to leverage larger local companies and hopefully gain more long term sponsorships that create more sustainable income.

I would be really keen for a cricket tour, whether that be in the UK or abroad, the plans for this year never quite took off (literally - Bucha Bucharest) but I do not feel we are not far from it being a possibility. As one of the best cricketing universities in the country, we have the opportunity go above and beyond and set a standard that other universities look up to, and I think a preseason playing tour would be a prime example of that.

I also would like to look into the viability of live-streaming our home games, whether that be through FrogBox or using the UCCE camera. It has been talked about before but next year I see no reason why we can’t have it.

The last point I’d like to raise is the potential of bringing in a coach to improve the quality of training sessions. We could have specialist sessions a couple of times per term focussing on different areas. This would involve discussions with the new training secretary but I feel it could really benefit us on the pitch come summertime.

I want to end by saying I believe that any exec member should have a strong grasp of how every part of the club runs. Over the last 2 years I’ve played across the main and intermediate squads and represented the 2s and 3s. I’ve helped out at Dev Squad training regularly, and even when I’ve been awful, I’ve loved getting stuck in with the football and indoor sides. I’ll be the first to admit that my social and rollover attendance hasn’t been where I’d have liked it to be this year – I’ve just been trying to follow the footsteps of a certain current Treasurer. In all seriousness, my full focus is now on cricket and will be throughout the entirety of next year, Treasurer or not.
