Hiii, I’m Lauren, a first-year Film and Spanish student, and I’d love your consideration to be the next Social Media Secretary for Film Soc.

My experience previously running a social media account for my sixth form History Society makes me perfect for this role. I’m comfortable using Photoshop and Canva, and I genuinely enjoy creating content that looks good and gets people interested.

The thing I love most about Film Soc is that it has introduced me to new favourites like La flor de mi secreto and Real Women Have Curves that I might never have found otherwise. These films are exactly why I think promotion matters. The more people we reach, the more we can share these amazing, lesser-known films with others. I'm also a Letterboxd warrior of four years and know the app and its uses well. I love the watchlists that the committee puts out and would love to continue this into next year.

One thing I think would be a great next step is getting Film Soc onto TikTok. We could share Letterboxd Top 4s from some of our members and committee, and promote our social events in a more interactive way. I know the increase in socials this year has been a main aim of the committee members, and I think if we could build more hype for these events on short form platforms, it would really help the society to thrive.

Also, Leeds has an amazing DIY film scene, and I think Film Soc could play a role in supporting that too. I’d love to use our platform to shout out local indie screenings and events, and help build bridges between our society and the wider film community through cross promotion.

I really love what Film Soc does and the space it creates for film lovers. I’d be super excited to help keep growing that community through creative, fun, and inclusive promotion.

Hi I’m Jack Norris, a first-year student currently studying Film, Photography and Media and am running for Social Media and Publicity Secretary for Film Soc next semester.

Now, I know many of you who have seen my candidate poster are probably thinking, “wow Jack, how did you manage to so accurately recreate the toilet scene from the hit 1996 film Trainspotting?” and to that I say I didn’t (thankfully) that’s just my Photoshop skills in action. I have a lot of experience in Photoshop and graphic design from my previous studies that I can use to create posters for the many socials and screenings Film Soc hosts, so if you like my silly campaign poster and want to see more like it, you know who to vote for.

Alongside this, I’m pretty well-accustomed to the social media platforms Film Soc uses (Facebook, Instagram, Letterboxd, WhatsApp) since I use them regularly myself and understand how they work pretty well. In addition, I aim to be a reliable and friendly person, so if there are any major updates to an event or if anyone is unsure or has any queries about upcoming events, I would always be happy to help resolve any problems you have in an efficient manner.

Most importantly, I love film. Going to Film Soc has definitely been a highlight of this year and it has been really cool watching films I love such as Akira on the big screen or being introduced to films I haven’t yet seen such as City of God or Twin Peaks (seriously it took me way too long to start watching David Lynch) as well as meeting likeminded people who also love film. There are many films that I would love to screen and it would be an incredible opportunity to introduce new people to these films if you vote for me.
