The committee this year has done a fantastic job and has really allowed appreciation for film our uni to flourish!

I'm very happy with the way things have been going with this society and have met many cool friends at it. I have ideas I want to implement which will further bolster the community!

I want to create a substrata of the whatsapp group which allows budding filmmakers to find collaborative partners! Perhaps a writer would want someone to produce their script, or a film project just needs a score to be composed. People of different skillsets will be able to communicate efficiently and thus collaborate on creative projects!

It would also be really cool to screen some of these projects in a "film festival," to appreciate each others works!

I also have connections to other societies such as album review (where I am social sec) UML, Philsoc, Polissoc, LSTV and more! Filmsoc has cross pollinated with alot of different societies this year, let's keep it that way!

I also have connections with film communities in other universities, such as Leeds Art Union Film Society, Leeds Conservatoire Film Society, MetFilm, and the Leeds Beckett Filmmaking community, where collaborations can further promote cross pollination and more collective flourishing of film appreciation and filmmaking.

Hi, I’m Francesca and I'm running to be your film society events secretary for 2025-26!

Last month, I was elected as part of general committee; I’ve loved helping out at events and in screenings. I’ve learnt so much about filmsoc and it would mean a lot to me if I could keep contributing as events secretary.

I'm soon going into my second year studying film. It is something I'm deeply passionate about, I understand how much of an impact they can have on people. Much like everyone else running, there are films I'd love to screen (my letterboxd is francescadbl if you're curious!!). However, I understand my role in the committee would be much more than screening films. I'm happy to take on the responsibilities that come with working on the committee - I understand that a significant part of why filmsoc is as enjoyable as it is is because of socials and events! It would be a privilege to organise them.

Over the past year, I have attended as many screenings and socials as I could. I've seen how much the community means to people and have an understanding of the importance of having a place to discuss films. A lot of my own closest friends I've met through Film Society! If you vote for me, I'll work hard to strengthen the community through inclusive socials and events.

I want to keep the society as lively as possible.

• A wide range of socials and events.
Cerys and I have already started discussing ideas in depth for possible future socials. A few of our ideas include:
- Pub trips
- Pub quizzes
- Nights out & filmsoc pres
- Pub crawls
- Sober meet-ups (summer 2026 filmsoc hyde park picnic!)
- Activity based events (bowling, i will push for trampolining even if its just me, etc)
- Continued support for local cinemas in Leeds (collabs at HPPH, more collabs at cottage road, etc!)
- Trips outside of leeds!
- Working with charities
I'll also try my best to organise drinks after any of my screenings!

With many new societies - not just for screenings, but for socials.

• Short film screenings
Either before screenings or at short film events - I want to give people an opportunity to submit films they want to screen, boost less known or student filmmakers, and broaden people's film tastes.

• Create a safe space
Above anything else, I would try and ensure everyone enjoys filmsoc socials- I do not want anyone to feel isolated or excluded at any event. I'll work alongside welfare sec to do this!

• Listening to people!
I want to prioritise what people want. If an event does not work out, I want people to feel comfortable telling me why not so I can improve. Any events people do like, I'll reorganise!


Other Stuff!
- I can recite a lot of film monologues & will do a 1 woman reenactment of the social network given the opportunity
- I will dress up for screenings any chance i get🙏
- Once one of my letterboxd reviews got 10 likes
- I have convinced half of the people I know to join filmsoc!!
- I have had people tell me they recognised me from filmsoc in public twice (film societies #1 fan)
